Barring injury, Betances will never be the closer for the Yankees. However, right now, he can be marketed to other teams as a closer. Personally, I think we've already seen the best of Betances and his value will never be higher. It's always good to have a strong back end to the pen, but I think Betances could bring a decent haul that may outweigh his value as a setup man in 2017.

I'd be ok with it depending on what comes back however i think the amount that Chapman and Melacon got will push the O's to trade Britton as they have no chance in hell of extending him now.

Keep Betances ... the 7th and 8th innings are just as important, and sometimes more important, than the 9th.

not a fan of trading players when their value is at it's lowest. There were some serious issues exposed when he was moved to the closer role

Part of me wonders the return an arbitration eligible Betances would return.. Then I see the Wade Davis for Jorge Soler trade....

Wade Davis is one year for 10 million he also missed all of August with an injury so there is some risk there.

I agree with this. The time to trade him was a couple years ago when he was blowing people away and his flaws weren't as apparent. Now you won't get the value that you probably should get for a guy who throws gas.

I doubt teams are going to put much input into one month of a bad Betances, over 3 years of a dominant one since he came into the league, moot point, Yankees wont trade him anyway.

I like Betances as the 7th and 8th inning guy, but it doesn't cost anything for the Yankees to listen to offers. I know this might not be popular but it's the same reason they should listen to offers for Tanaka.

So, who is going to pitch the 8th inning? Adam Warren? Clippard? Sure anyone can pitch the 8th inning, but that role is usually reserved for our 2nd best relief pitcher. Unless anyone can make the argument that the difference in talent level between Betances and everyone else isn't so stark, then maybe the Yankees can think about trading him. However a more important question is: Why do we have to help some other team's bullpen and not our own? Unless the haul, in return, is something so great that the Yankees would be crazy to refuse, Betances needs to stay with the Yankees so he can close out the 8th inning. Contrary to some belief, the Yankees are not punting the 2017 season away. The signing of Holliday and Chapman prove that. Therefore a bullpen that consists of Betances and Chapman, increases are chances to getting into the postseason. As for value... Even as a setup man, Betances' value will still be that of a closer and he won't lose that for a while. As long as he can be effective as an "8th inning closer," he can always be looked at as a 9th inning one. Furthermore, Betances isn't just some guy who happens to be a force in the bullpen; he is "All Star Dellin Betances." So if you are worried about his trade value, there is no need to be. Again, this is not to say that I wouldn't trade Betances. I just won't pick up the phone and shop the guy to other GM's. Let those guys come to me.
