Gardner is more valuable to the Yankees than Ellsbury who can create havoc with his speed, has a good glove and an accurate arm. I do understand why Gardner would fetch more back than Ellsbury or any of the depth the Yankees have in their outfield. It'd just be tough to see and expect all of Gardner, Ellsbury, Hicks, Frazier all be up with the big league club and have enough ABs to even be slightly be useful and fresh for the Yanks all year long. Someone does need to go. I trust that Cashman and co. will figure it out.
If you ask me, Gardner and Ellsbury hasn't really been the top of the lineup table setters that we all had hoped they would be in recent time. You know, guys that should hit close to .300 while stealing 35+ bases a season. Homeruns from Gardy are good and all, but we have guys for that already. I think it's time to start somewhere fresh especially since both are on the wrong side of 30. Just my opinion.

Hit close to .300? Gardner has an .OBP of .350. Ichiro, as a Yankee, batted a good .281, but has a terrible OBP of .314. The problem with batting averages is that if the player slumps, he's practically not contributing at all. There is only one type of table setter in a ballgame. That's the waiter or waitress that serves your table in the luxury box. It seems to me that your "old school" when it comes to thsi game. The role of the leadoff hitter only happens once in a game and it only happens in the 1st inning. After that, his role diminishes, until he find himself leading off another inning. In the meantime you can bat your best hitters Judge, Sanchez no.2 in the lineup to maximize their number of ABs (per game) while you position the 7th or 8th batter to "setup" those guys.

OK,but it can be done....minus Ellsbury. The idea floating around is to alternate Judge and Stanton with RF and DH, while keeping Gardy in LF and Hicks in CF. I think that's a good idea and it would help preserve the wear and tear of Judge and Stanton's bodies. If Girardi were still managing, he would probably rotate the whole outfield with the DH spot. I am guessing Boone will do the same thing too, but....I obviously wouldn't know for sure. As for Frazier, there is no need to worry about him. He can be sent down to SWB...no biggie. When he's needed, "they" will give him a call.

Ellsbury is the player that has to be moved !!! Why would anyone want to move Hicks and keep Ellsbury ?? Why would anyone that will get the same money if he's traded or if he's sitting on the bench, easy, he gets to play every day or at least more than he's going to if he's a Yankee... So there's the reason you try to move Ellsbury and keep Hicks, who is a switch hitter, is the best defensive OF on the team and will hit as good as Ellsbury with more power... You keep Gardner because if I'm right he only has one year left and then you can do whatever you want with him next year... Ca$hman will find a deal for Ellsbury, he might have to give up one of our surplus OF's that we have in the minor leagues, but in the long run it will be worth it.. The idea is to get below the Luxury Level in 2018 then they have money at a cheaper Tax level to spend in 2019, just hang on fans it will happen...

Screw that giving up quality prospects idea. The Yankees willing to pay half or so of Els' contract in return for a second or third tier minor league player is fair enough.
As far as if Els would waive his no trade clause, he knows that he has two choices. Stay with the Yankees on the bench or be in the line up every day for another team. My guess is that he accepts a trade.
Right, Max. He makes 22 million per year. If Hal is willing to eat 12-13 million per year, then it is unreasonable for the acquiring team to expect top tier prospects.
Offer is to acquring teams : Yankees eat 39 million of the remaining 66 million, leaving the other team paying 9 million per year for Ellisbury. Add in one , maybe two lower level prospects , but that is it !
