Honestly...has any player ever been this bad for so long and just continue to get the opportunity???

The best thing for Bird and the team is to send him to AAA so he could get consistent abs. He is way overmatched at this level ...it’s his only hope at making it back one day.

Give someone like Ford a chance ... not that he is going to be anything special but he might at least have a chance

Bird only got the chance to open the season with the Yankees because Hicks got hurt. Then Stanton got hurt too which opened up the chance for Bird to get more playing time and in my opinion he is blowing his last chance with the Yankees. He had an encouraging spring but first base was always going to be Voit's job unless he completely fell off a cliff but the injuries gave Bird another chance.

When either Stanton or Hicks comes off the IL I believe Bird will get sent down to Scranton. I don't know what happened to him. He was so good in 2015 after Tex got hurt. Probably a combination of the injuries and the league catching up to him. His bat is unbelievably slow. Unlike someone like Clint Frazier. You can get him out with mediocre fastballs. He is not impacting the ball at all. It's a shame because the Yankees can sure use a lefty power threat and he is the only one currently on the roster who has the ability to give us lefty power.

But it is looking more and more as though it will never happen. Even if he goes down to Scranton and does well I am not sure he deserves another chance. He can't live forever on that home run he hit to beat Cleveland in game 3 of the 2017 division series. Which is pretty much all he has done since 2015.

Once again this proves that spring training stats mean nothing. Tyler Wade is another one. I expect he will gone soon as well. He has had several chances with the Yankees and hasn't ever shown even a small amount of hitting ability. Even to be a utility player you have to be able to hit a little bit which I don't think he will ever be able to do in the major leagues. Some players can't make the jump from Triple A to the majors and he might be one. But Wade is the poster child of spring training stats. He has hit well three spring trainings in a row and it has never carried over to the regular season. In spring training you are facing a lot of minor league pitchers and the major league pitchers often don't pitch to you the same way in spring training as they would during the regular season.

And Bird and Wade seem to be the biggest whiners.  Bird's at bats are over so fast. Two swings and two foul balls and one strike taken and he's on the pine.  Wade seems over matched.  On the bright side, Clint Frazier has a legit potent bat. His swing is a thing of beauty. In baseball one out of three is good.

Luke Voit is not hitting for average yet. Luke has 9 RBI's tie for the team lead with Frazier, and Sanchez. Bird has 1. Bird is hitting under two hundred as well. He is taking AB's away from someone who could certainly not strike out 4 times in a night and two days ago 3 time out of 4. The point is, Voit like Giambi, hits better when he is on the field at first base.  When he DH's he does OK but his average would go up to close to his career average of 270 plus. I like Bird, but lets face it, he just is here because we have no one else with a lefty bat.

you miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

Bird puts himself into bad counts by taking very hittable FBs early in the AB.

Agree.  His eye is a blesing and a curse.  He walks a lot, and often on close pitcxhes, but he's unwilling to look to jump on a pitch.  He also seems to decide to swing at a pitch before it's thrown, kind of like A-Rod in his last 2 seasons.  All of this is a recipe for disaster.

Most of the FBs I've seen him take are not borderline, but you may be right...he may be looking for a pitch in a certain location. Once he's set up in a 2 strike count, he's guess hitting. He usually gets put away on a breaking ball down.

I have seen him get called out on some questionable strikes, but he shouldn't have put himself in that position by taking very hittable FBs early in the count.

Last night his last AB was a perfect example.  0-2 he strikes out swinging at a ball that was almost in the dirt.

I would say there is a 99% chance Bird heads to SWB when Stanton returns.  Wade isn't hitting any better, but at least he can play multiple defensive positions and would be an option to pinch run.
