Yanks did not offer qualifing offer to Didi so he is now a free agent. What's the next move?

well then it sounds like you get the IF you've been clamoring for. DJLM moves back to 2B, torres to SS and urshela 3B with some combination of voit, ford or even andujar at 1B.

however though don't think it will happen, there's still the possibility that they could sign didi as a free agent. maybe they wanted to see what market there is for him instead of throwing the $17.8 mil QO at him.

Is hard to offer him 18 mil...when they got a lot more production from LaMahieu for a lot less.

They could resign him but, they just lost a draft pick by not extending him a qualifying offer. I just think they have that DJ 2nd Torres SS and Urschela 3rd base plan. Toi me it just makes sense, defensively, offensively and monetarily. After all it is all about the Benjamins seemingly anymore and if they want to go after Cole paying Didi when they have a SS makes no sense does it? Plus we still have 3 first basemen to consider with Luke Ford and Bird all going to ST and maybe training Andujar, so who knows but I had a feeling Didi was not going to be signed and yes, I agree with that.

It also means Gardner will definitely be back--and maybe Tauchman. How many LH batters can we afford to let go in our lineup, esp. since Hicks (a switch hitter at least) will be, as is becoming usual for him. out of commission for pretty much half the season? Andujar playing 1B along with or instead of Voit doesn't make sense to me unless one of them gets traded. Given our RH hitting infield now, I should think we need either the LH hitting Ford or--one more time?--Bird to play/platoon there.

A better portion of the team didn't show up in the ALCS.

I just want to point out that DJ LeMahieu hit 26 home runs this year in 602 at bats with an OPS of 893. In 2018 Didi Gregorius hit 27 home runs in 504 at bats with an OPS of 829. LeMahieu cannot play SS.
