I don't know if people on the board were aware of it but I was recentlyinformed that one of the most popular and knowlegeable posters had passed away after a "courageous battle with cancer".  Jonathon Joseph Plesce was 68 and lived in Hazleton, Pa.  I will leave it at that but for those of us who knew him through these boards, he will be truly missed.  Although I never me you personally, I truly enjoyed our friendship.  God Bless you, my friend.  nc

I just got the news from the admin over at the zoo...  Big Guy, you are already sorely missed! You are a true friend even though we never met. You were a source of inspiration when my daughter suffered the same cancer. RIP my friend!

As many of you know, BigGuy was the main aggregator of Yankees News here at the Bronx Zoo.

This will replace the original Prayer Thread, which can be found here: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1170

Like all of you, we met over a decade ago on the YesNetwork forums.

Here is his obituary.

Jonathon J Plesce
November 19, 2019

Jonathon Joseph Plesce, 68, passed away peacefully Tuesday, surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Hazleton on Jan. 14, 1951, Jonathon was the son of the late John Plesce and Catherine Deeb Plesce.

Jon is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Linda Savoy Plesce; his two daughters, Angela Grace Avillion and husband, Paul; and Christina Marie Gavio and husband, Dr. Daniel Gavio; and two grandchildren, whom he adored, Paul Jonathon and Joseph Avillion.

Jon enjoyed spending time with his family and grandsons at the beach, especially sunsets on the Gulf of Mexico.

He is also survived by three sisters, Sharon Halko and husband, Frank; Kathryn Cullari and husband, Dr. Salvatore Cullari; and Geraldine McElroy and husband, Michael. In addition, he will be lovingly remembered by several nieces and nephews.

Prior to retirement, Jon was employed by Hazleton General Hospital for 35 years.

He was a talented musician and played the guitar in several local bands throughout the years including, The Canterbury Tales, Ognir and the Night People and, most recently, Monterey. He was known for his love of sports and was an avid New York Yankees and Giants fan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Rosary Church, Hazleton, on Saturday at 10 a.m. Friends may call Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church.

Big Guy made this board, and our lives, a little bit better every day he participated.

Rest in Peace, Jon.

Even though I haven't been on these boards for so many years like some, I grew to know Big Guy from the posts he put on these and other Yankee boards... He was a very knowledgable Yankee fan and I know he will be truly missed... God Bless you Big Guy and may you rest in peace...

God Bless his family in these tough times, and if we have faith, we know he's in a better place and watching all the great Yankees playing their game still...

Very very sad news. I probably exchanged more posts and emails with Big and Mo then with anyone else on these boards since I joined in Feb of 2006. We kept talking about going to a Rail Riders game but sadly it never was to be. Great man and the best poster to ever grace these boards. As many of us know, he put up a tremendous fight against this horrible disease and now I'm confident he will Rest in Peace. Thanks for being such a good friend and Yankee fan

This has taken me by surprise, I was unaware that he lost his battle ... I knew he was fighting very hard ... and he was an inspiration.

We will all miss you Big Guy ... you were the rock behind this board and you have been sorely missed already ... now there are just no words to say how sad your passing is ... you fought a good fight my friend, but the Lord had greater plans for you.  God Bless you Jon.

Very sad news to hear this morning. Big guy was a true gentleman and a great fan. He graced this board with his humor and knowledge...RIP Big.
One of my favorite memories of Big was when he and Yankeeaddict called the game online one evening. They did a great job...
My condolences to his family... he was one of the good guys.
So sad....
