Ahhhhh yes, Mike Ford, another of those 28 year old career minor leagures that came up, hit a couple of homers, showed great energy and was going to help lead us to the promised land. I forgot about him. Been so many I forget them all I guess. Maybe we should have traded Voit when this guy showed so much promise

oh the irony ... guess mike ford won't be coming back to haunt us. the rays couldn't fix him and "the media" was wrong. cashman got something for him. oh and the mention of cashman dumpster dives - think most of them have worked out pretty well this season.

Dumpster diving is what Cashman does well. If I were a Steinbrenner I'd never let the guy touch my credit card, but he does find a lot of contributors on the bargain rack !

funny but true. when we pay, things don't work out. while not "dives" cashman got rizzo & gallo "for free". just keep him away from the check book Laughing.

and of course tauchmann was another. these guys certainly had their 15 minutes of fame (actually much more), then they reverted to what they were. the scouts & coaches were right all along.

like i said, i've enjoyed velazquez's week. luv the kid's energy and what he's brought and maybe he's one who bucks the trend but not ready to turn over the keys to him.

Speaking of dumpster diving, Gio had 3 hits in a rehab game last night and reports said he moved well. I would expect to see him back with the big club soon.

What if the PTBNL is Ford himself?

Anyone really wants to go dumpster diving, just pull up one of the many Jpep threads whining, complaining, jumping off and acting like he knows more than the Yanks manager and coaches.

Next stop for Mike Ford appears to be Washington, DC. The Nats claimed him off waivers from the Rays.

Or, more likely Rochester in AAA, because that's the Nats top farm team, they already have Josh Bell and Ryan Zimmerman to play first, and you can't exactly use Ford to replace the traded Trea Turner at short, now can you?

Doubtful Ford can slide as smoothly as Trea Turner...

Zimmerman is 37 next month, and a FA after this year. I believe it likely the Nats let him walk.

Bell's last arb eligible season is next year, then he is a FA. Ford may be his backup in 2022, maybe the starter in '23, depending if they want to keep Bell, and the contract negotiations if they do.

The DH is likely in the NL next season, so maybe they see Ford as possibly useful in that role as well.
