BTW am I to understand that Cashman just outrighted Park? Really? Not even trade him, just let him go? Hopefully what I just read on YES is a misprint.

Park was originally signed in 2015 and he's been in the organization for that long, it's his 7th season in the organization, so unless they were granted an exception, Park has no options left.

The Yanks probably had no choice but to outright him, which is probably why the took seemingly forever to call him up despite him having what looks like a breakthrough year in AAA (it probably isn't, actually). If one of the other teams claims him on waivers before he's sent back to Scranton, the Yanks can try to work out a trade. Who knows? They might even get a living, breathing reliever for him.

Then why did they bring him up--just to sit on the bench? How many at-bats did he have? He hardly threatened to show up and/or motivate Odor (2B) or Gardner (CF), though I'd rather have seen Park get a chance at either position. Doesn't make sense to me, but maybe there's some fair explanation.

with the covid thing and players dropping like flies, they needed another body, so he got called up and got his one AB. a few days later they needed a pitcher to start (wojo), so he was outrighted, optioned, whatever. not sure of the mechanics of it, whether he passed through waivers, but he's back at scranton. generally when you take a player off the 40 man and you don't IL him, you risk losing him, which is why teams don't wily nily move players who aren't on the 40 man up. just my understanding of it.

It's possible that Park was a callup replacement for a COVID player and there might be some additional rule that callups for COVID replacements are exempted from waivers when outrighted. I'll have to look into that.

Looks like the Yankees cleared some payroll so they can be buyers.

Hey folks, with all of the Yankees underachieving during the season, they are 1 GAME IN THE LOSS COLUMN behind the A's for the second wildcard.

The Yankees playoff competition is improving their teams, or looking to improve. A's have made a couple of good trades.

Now the Blue Jays are interested in Joey Gallo and Richard Rodriguez. The latter reliever was the one the Yankees should have traded for instead of Holmes. And Gallo would be a excellent get for the Yanks.

I don't think you're getting a solid closer for Park and Castillo. We think they're good prospects because their numbers look pretty good, but in fact, I think every other MLB team passed Park through waivers when he was sent back down, and Castillo, while a legit prospect, at least as a backup/part-time infielder, was ranked in the high 20's among Yanke prospects at Fangraphs before the trade and is now ranked #22 in the Pirates system by Longerhagen and Goldstein at Fangraphs. Park and Castillo both passed through the Rule 5 draft last year and were both set to become minor league free agents after this season.

Rodriguez will draw a significantly higher price because multiple teams are interested in him.
