Rizzo, Gallo and Heaney. For 8 low-A, A-ball, and AA prospects, most of whom had to be protected in the Rule 5 draft after this year anyway or lost for nothing. And Hal gets to stay under his precious luxury tax payroll cap, as all three players came with the money to pay them.

Is it enough?

I think it's enough to contend, and maybe steal, the Wild Card, but not enough to seriously contend.

White Sox made big pickups, and get Eloy Jimenez back.  Sox and Rays make solid pickups and are well ahead.

And of course, the Dodgers, on paper at least, now look unbeatable.

OK. I've been all over the board the last week or so. It's time for me to peep down. I'll respond, but I won't initiate any more.

 ^ agree. But it's a start.

I've said before that it's going to take more than these deadline moves to fix this roster there are just two many flaws. If they continue in the offseason to flush out more dead wood and add high average guys (a true leadoff hitter would be nice) and some pitching we could make a run at it next year. IMO.

Are they better?  Absolutely.  Gallo should be an improvement over Gardner, Andujar or Frazier, though I suspect fans will turn on him the first time he strikes out with a runner on 3B and less than 2 outs.  Rizzo's left handed pop at 1B move DJLM back to 2B and Odor to he bench.  But will Rizzo-DJLM be THAT much better than DJLM-Odor?

Given that pretty much every aspect of this team save for the starting pitching is pretty much below average, but only Toronto among the teams realistically going for the 2d WC spot seems to have improved, they should remain in contention, at least matematically, thru the end fo the season.

I think Oakland made a few moves that will help them as well. Added some depth to their roster. In addition to Marte, they also acquired Harrison and Gomes from the Nats today. All 3 are decent acquiaitions. Harrison is having a career season and Marte is a good player.

You're more than welcome, Mo.

It was tough to keep up with it all, especially in the last hour, but I think I got 'em all...

...except for the Braves picking up Pirates' closer Rodriguez for Starter Bryce Wilson and Ricky DeVito.

Wow, BOTH Mo and CHL 59 like my work!

I must be doing something right.

You're also more than welcome. Thanks for the feedback.

I'll add to the chorus, qwik. Thanks for providing so much detail, facts, statistics, including the deeper dive statistics, about the players. I usually don't spend too much time going into the deeper stats, too time consuming. I find it especially informative and interesting for the minor league players who you know a lot about. Good chatting back and forth with you on here.

Most of what I get, especially on minor leaguers, is from Fangraphs. It's all there, if you want to do your own digging.

There are a lot of good websites with prospect "hounds", but in my opinion, Longerhagen and Goldstein at Fangraphs are the best of the free sites. Yes, you can become a member, but most of the site, including most of their work, is still free.
