does that make 3 straight POG for rizzo?

i'd like to mention gardy. he was trashed in the game thread but was involved in 2 keys. his base hit jump started things in the 8th and his slow roller in the 9th led to all sorts of mayhem and an insurance run.

My thinking is that Allen could've done the same thing and time after time. He's young. Give hm a chance to play CF. On another note, it's nice that the Pirates promoted Park to SS. Of course, the Pirates have nothing to lose, but still...good for Park. I hope he does well.

maybe but "could've" doesn't count. gardy played and contributed. btw i'd be playing allen over gardy but after his hot start he's hitting .182 w 10Ks in 22 ABs.

Once again taking a call up letting him play and he contributes and then he is benched for whatever reason is not exactly a vote of confidence for the kid as well as them needing AB's to continue to get even better...... so there is that. The obsession with Gardner is baffling and as I said in the game thread there is no logical reason for him being in that game as a starter. Then they take the kid off the bench and he strikes out more of a confidence builder. I do agree Gardner did have a good game however and if he HAD to be in there I suppose his being there did pay off. He just needs to retire. ANd .182 isn't much worse than Gardners .196 for way more games and playing time over Allen to get it up to his career average.

you miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

Gardner will retire at the end of the year and everyone crying that he should retire now is not going to change that.

One can always hope that’s the case, But every time Gardner does well, Cashman no doubt gets the heaves and you can see him trying to have him come back in 2022. Allen needs more daily, i.el, Regular, at-bats, with Gardner benched until maybe a defensive move here and there (albeit his defense not exactly shining any more) necessitates such a move. Someone noted on another Yankee blog the other day:

Yankees are:
28th out of 30 teams in wRC+ w/ RISP
29th out of 30 teams in BA w/RISP
29th out of 30 teams in SLG w/RISP
29th out of 30 teams in wOBA w/RISP
28th out of 30 teams in HR w/RISP
30th out of 30 teams in HITS w/RISP (by a large margin)
30th out of 30 teams in RBIs w/RISP

Unfortunately, I think Gallo will be more of the same. He doesn't get hits. He wasn't the contact hitter we needed.

PS: Brett Gardner is batting .133 and a wRC+ 22 w/RISP. Let that sink in: 22, and Brian Cashman named him the starting CFer.
If they had just an average CF, they'd probably be in the hunt for the division right now. Gardner has been catastrophic to this team. Replacing him alone with a very good CF makes the Yankees one of the best, if not the best, offense in baseball.

Just so.

They've got an average center fielder under contract forever...and he can never stay healthy. Even so, I think I would have let Wade play a lot more center this year. He might not hit any better, but the guy has great defensive talent.
