Well great night for Voit, amazing what a little competition can do.
Yeah hitting competition...Rizzo is by far a better 1st baseman
Would like to keep both of them ... but I heard they are lowering the threshold.
I really hope they figure out a way to keep Rizzo. He has changed this teams outlook since he came here! And his left bat helps as well
I really like Rizzo a lot ... I love a good fielding first baseman ... I've always been into defense at first, even though many have argued with me about the importance of it.
agree mo. when you look at the lineage of first basemen over the last 35-40 yrs - mattingly, tino, tex were great fielders. rizzo would continue that legacy. and i'm not choosing between luke & rizzo.
Additionally there is an advantage to having a lefty occupying 1B. No doubt Rizzo is a stellar defender.
note all the guys mentioned are lefties (well tex was a switch). go back in time, lou gehrig, joe pepitone, giambi. to me, first base means lefty. as far as moving forward, voit is under team control for a couple more years and rizzo is not and will be expensive. will worry about that in the post-season. right now, focused on the team right now, in this moment.

Tampa takes the lead 5-4 top 9th!
Rays likely did their share of score.board watching to be inspired to win one tonight.
Chi ties it 5-5 top of the 9th! LGWS!
I'm loving it....
Is anybody a bit surprised that we are scoreboard watching? Overtaking the Rays not out of the quetion. those last 3 games of the season vs Rays at YS could welll be for the AL East

btw gained a game on the rays as they lost. only 4 out. 1.5 games ahead of red sox & a's. we're a staggering 30-11 starting on july 4. amazing!

fire cashman especially ... don't know what the rest of the season will bring. the wheels could fall off tomorrow but for now, the team is on a heck of a run. cashman has to get some credit for the recent trades and providing enough depth to weather the storm personnel-wise. sure lots of stuff is on him, but even his "dumpster dives" for the most part have payed off. gonna enjoy this magic carpet ride as long as it lasts, which i hope is deep into the playoffs.

This could be a very exciting, nerve wracking finish down the back stretch! Where are all the people who wrote this Yankee team off in July!

This is why you don't write off a team in July! Or the 1st week of the season! Nothing would give me more pleasure than to take the East from Tampa! We'll see what happens... one game at a time!

Theyre all back on the bandwagon. Next two game losing streak they'll jump back off.

No doubt, but, in fairness up until early July the Yankees were playing listless, boring baseball, losing on a regular basis. I was one of those who was pretty much following the games only on MLB gameday because I had more interesting things to do and watch than watch them kill rallies by hitting into DPs, get thrown out on the bases and blow late game leads. They were dead last in BA with RISP and second to last in percentage of base runners scored. The trade deadline has changed all that.
I thought we might be doing some scoreboard watching for a WC spot. Didn't expect to be doing it for the AL East. Actually stayed up last night to follow the Tampa-Chisox game on MLB Gameday.
