Not likely that Torres will get "Wally Pipped" but I do wonder if Cashman will at least excplore what Torres might bring back in trade.  Yankee INF degfense is SO much better with either Wade or Velasquez in there instead of Torres, especially Velasquez.

I think there are a number of dominos that may fall in the off season that will determine what happens with guys like Torres. I think the first one is first base. I really believe Voit will be gone regardless of whether they resign Rizzo. If Rizzo is not back, I would not be surpirsied to see them move DJ to first, Torres to 2B and then figure out the SS situation. I do believe that Cashman finally realizes that you can't put out a 8/9 man RH hiiting lineup every day. The acquisitions of Rizzo and Gallo along with extended playing time for Odor and Gardner have brought a much needed balance to this lineup. One I think that needs to be maintained next season even if some of the current players aren't around.

Agree and as nice of a story he is, I seriously doubt Velazquez is the long term solution.

New, I'm pretty much in agreement with your thinking here. Expect Cash will weigh all options and hopefully make the right choses. I'm interested in seeing what happens with Wade. Is he finally starting to realize the potential we were told he had a couple years ago? Has he solidified his position as a bench player capable of playing mulitiple positions? Would he be given a chance to win the starting SS job in a cost saving move. I think the last scenario is unlikely but if he can solidify his bench role and be the gadget player we thought DJL was gonna be, that has some value.

We have no idea how aggressively Cashman shopped Voit, but hard to see any team offering much for a 1B/DH who couldn't stay off the IL and who didn't produce much when he was healthy, though his play since his last rup should increase his value.  Clearly Voit is gone if they re-sign Rizzo, but I think the Yankees may well be glad they hung on to Voit when they try to re-sign Rizzo.  $54/3 would be a fair contract for both sides, but if he wants, say, $100/5, no thanks.

while this has been an amazing run, try not to get too high or too low. rizzo & gallo have certainly given the team a boost and changed the culture in a number of ways, but to me the real heavy lifting has been done by the guys who were supposed to carry the load and who all underperformed for the 1st 4 months. since august 1, stanton, voit, dj and judge have finally started hitting up to expectations. think it was a little bit of trading for rizzo & gallo and that these guys were due to break out. also being to able to alternate L/R is huge.

regarding velazquez, luv the kid, but he's really been on a run for only 6 games, so i'm not ready to hand over SS to him just yet. and maybe he is a late bloomer. he does bring things like defense, speed and switch hitting and not saying i'd do it or cashman would but perhaps there's a scenario if he's hitting .275, where you say you value those things over gleyber w the other big boppers in the lineup. but again need to see more than 6 games.

Truth be told I wanted the job to go to Wade. If he could learn to use his speed he could be a very useful player for this team.

Truth be told I want Tyler to have the job. His speed was not my concern, it was his bat. But look a Tyler batting .278. Yanks can live with that!

I seriously doubt they will explore any trades with Torres. The Yankees are no longer the spend wild team of the George era. Where Hal can save money, with cost-controlled players, he will do so, as he already has some huge contracts on the books. I don't blame him at all for that. He does spend a lot as it is, and teams like Tampa have proven a huge payroll isn't necessary to win.

not sure what they're gonna do w torres but agree they are no longer the spend wild team of the george era for all the reasons you mention. between watching other teams w much smaller payrolls win and to pay a tax over and beyond the actual cost of the player, he's "trying" to become more frugal.

don't really believe george's spending was necessarily successful. the '96-00 teams were really built on the backs of the core 5 and yeah he spent on a couple veterans like a cone etc sprinkled in to round things out but if a season w/o a championship was considered a failure, then there were a lot more failures.
