INJURY UPDATES

Day to day

OF  (HBP on right elbow)
Gardner was out of the starting lineup on Aug. 21 after being hit near the right elbow by a pitch on Aug. 20. Gardner is said to be stiff and sore. The Yankees are hopeful that Gardner will be able to return in the Braves series. (Last updated: Aug. 21)

10-day IL

3B  (left hamstring strain)
Expected return: Late August
Urshela sustained a setback while running and taking ground balls on Aug. 8 at Yankee Stadium. He received a PRP injection, which is intended to speed healing. Urshela could begin a Minor League rehab assignment on Aug. 22 with Double-A Somerset, weather permitting. (Last updated: Aug. 21)

RHP  (right shoulder inflammation)

Expected return: Late August
Germán last pitched on July 31 and has experienced soreness since his near no-hitter against the Red Sox on July 25. He had a bullpen session on Aug. 14 with Double-A Somerset, throwing all fastballs. He tossed a bullpen session on Aug. 18, mixing in his other pitches. Germán experienced some soreness, but he has been cleared to resume playing catch on Aug. 23 or Aug. 24, then will throw a bullpen session. (Last updated: Aug. 21)

SS  (left thumb)
Expected return: Late August/September
Torres sustained a sprain of his left thumb while stealing second base against the Mariners on Aug. 8. Manager Aaron Boone said the club received “good news” following an MRI, which did not show ligament damage. Torres fielded ground balls and took dry swings on Friday, and he might hit off a tee over the weekend.  (Last updated: Aug. 20)

60-day IL

RHP  (recovery from Tommy John surgery, Grade 2 groin strain)
Expected return: TBD
Severino had been scheduled to make a rehab start on Aug. 13 for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, but he “didn’t feel right” during pregame warmups, at which point he was scratched. Severino underwent an MRI on his tight right shoulder on Aug. 16 in New York, then reviewed the results with team physician Dr. Chris Ahmad. At Severino’s request, the MRI results have been sent to Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles for a second opinion, which revealed no structural damage. Severino has been shut down from throwing through at least Aug. 22. He is expected to travel to California for an in-person visit with ElAttrache. (Last updated: Aug. 21)

IF/OF  (left wrist strain)

Expected return: TBD
Andújar started a Minor League rehab assignment with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Aug. 17, going 1-for-3 vs. Worcester. He sustained his injury while batting on July 5; Andújar was sidelined earlier in the season with a similar issue in his right hand. He had a cortisone injection on July 16, then a second one on July 22 after experiencing residual soreness. (Last updated: Aug. 18)

RHP  (right subscapular strain)
Expected return: September
The Yankees were encouraged by Kluber’s second Minor League rehab start on Aug. 17, in which the veteran permitted three runs on two hits over three innings for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre vs. Worcester. Kluber walked two, struck out four and allowed a homer, tossing 37 of 56 pitches for strikes. Kluber said he felt good the day after and will make at least one more start in the Minors, aiming to fine-tune his cutter. (Last updated: Aug. 18)

OF  (possible vision issues)
Expected returnTBD
Frazier asked out of the lineup on Aug. 15 while on a Minor League rehab assignment with Double-A Somerset, telling the team that he did not feel ready to play. Frazier has been dealing with dizziness and other sensitivity that was initially thought to be vertigo, but may be vision and/or neck issues. Frazier has not appeared in the Majors since exiting a June 30 game with dizziness. (Last updated: Aug. 16)

RHP  (right middle finger contusion)
Expected return: September
King will need to rebuild his stamina after he sustained the injury while performing weight training, jamming his finger between a set of weights. X-rays were negative, but King was unable to play catch due to swelling. King was seen by a hand specialist, then transferred to the 60-day injured list on July 28. (Last updated: Aug. 10)

OF  (torn tendon sheath in left wrist)

Expected return: 2022
Following a brief course of anti-inflammatories, Hicks opted for surgery to repair his left wrist, a season-ending procedure that will include four to six months of recovery time. The surgery was performed on May 26 by Dr. Donald Sheridan in Scottsdale, Ariz. Hicks has been rehabbing and said on Aug. 4 that he expects to have a normal offseason that will have him ready for Opening Day in 2022. (Last updated: Aug. 4)

 2022

Wonder if moving Andujar to the 60 day IL is just a book keeping move to open up a 40 man slot or does it indicate some sort of set back when he started the rehab last week?

Given that the September roster expansions are now limited to 28 players, it seems unlikley we'll see Andujar (or Frazier) again this season barring any further IL stints by the current OFs on the 26 man roster.

I like Allen and I don´t know why Davis continues to be ahead of him.

I think Britton's career with the Yanks is over.
