Manager claims it was 100% his decision but I don't buy that for a minute.

Gives some context to when Rothschild was here, tho, huh?

Perhaps getting rid of Rothchild and hiring Blake was a good move after all.

The team's hitting this year is still way underperforming, but the pitching, especially the starting pitching, has been overperforming. Especially considering all the injuries and the COVID list stays.

For years I was begging to get rid of Larry and everyone on this board insisted that he was not the problem.

Well now we have the same problem with Thames as the hitting coach ... get rid of this guy and let this offense dominate the way it should.

Unfortunately we can't do it now in the middle of a hot streak and that might come back to bite us in the ass during the playoffs

I've never been much on giving too much blame or too much credit to pitching or hitting coaches mainly because I really don't know what they do behind the scenes working with players. I don't know their programs, their analytic analysis or personal contributions. We all watch from afar and when things aren't clicking it's fire Thames, fire Blake, fire Boone, fire fill in the blank. I can't evaluate a coaches achievements or failures watching games on tv and reading forums, I don't think any of us can although there are a few who think they can.

I wasn't a Rothschild fan, and Luv I agree with you none of us really no how effective coaches are. What used to bother me with him was it seemed like almost every pitcher wo came to NY regressed. I never saw him make anyone better. I realize that is a pretty general statement but it was the impression I delveloped over his tenure.

The younger Blake was a good choice; it was time to move on from Rothschild.

Having said that, this was a strange time to dismiss a PC. Padre starters Darvish, Paddock, and Lamet are all on the IL. For the other starters, Snell is having his worst career year, but he has changed leagues, so that might have something to do with it. Musgrove is having his best career season.

The bullpen is solid, with closer Melancon having another good year. With the injuries, it seems surprising they made Rothschild a casualty at this time, rather than waiting to season's end. But, checking some of their pitchers stats this year, overall they appear down.

Pitching changed a lot from when we first brought Larry to the team to when he left.  I don't get the idea that Larry changed with the game.  He's a wealth of knowledge but may not be the best guy for a MLB job now.

Thames is a different story.  Thames is teaching just what Cashman wants him to teach.  It's the organizational hitting theory that is bad and that's not going to change unless the organization changes its path.
