Yankees' Kluber expected to start Monday vs. Angels

New York Yankees right-hander Corey Kluber is expected to return from the injured list and start against the Los Angeles Angels on Monday, manager Aaron Boone said, according to Lindsey Adler of The Athletic. The 35-year-old has been sidelined since May 25 due to a shoulder injury. The two-time Cy Young winner threw 60 pitches during a rehab start on Tuesday. His role going forward is still to be determined, and Andrew Heaney could piggyback during Kluber's return, Boone added.

Good news! Hopefully Kluber will be good to go down the stretch and  further. Pitching, Pitching, Pitching!

If his shoulder is healthy - that is is BIG IF - then having a month to build up pitch count before the playoffs is a very good thing.

Building up pitch count and command would both be important.  Remember, in the beginning of the year, Kluber often struggled with command and it wasn't really until mid-May that he appeared to be turning the corner.

As reported..Heaney will be Kluber's caddy. Kluber will be limited to a specific pitch count.

I'm not sure how good an idea that is...Heaney always seems to struggle early.

Not too many options here. There really isn't a long reliever on the staff with King still on rehab, Koerner outrighted back to AAA, Gil still at AAA, and Cortes in the rotation.

If Kluber can only go 3-4 innings, you get a quasi-"bullepen game" if you don't use Heaney behind Kluber.

I thought Gil should have stayed in the rotation and was a bit surprised when they sent him down

If we get any of our starters back, and especially in the Playoffs, I'm betting Cortes will be the long man when needes...

Fortunately, the Angels are terrible.

would rather see cortes in the rotation than heaney but if they do the piggy back thing w kluber & heaney tonite, that would keep cortes in the rotation for now. and of course would like to see gil in there as well.

if the playoffs start today, it's cole (WC or game 1) followed by either monty or taillon next depending on how they're pitching and the matchup. need to see kluber before slotting him in. if not kluber, then cortes or gil as the 4th starter. heaney in the bullpen.
