Does anyone have any data on Taillon's velocity over the last few games versus what he was doing in that really good stretch about a month ago?

I like Taillon and think he is a good middle of the rotation arm. But I am wondering if his slow start and diminishing finish both have something to do with his almost 2 year absence.

And it appears any hopes of winning the division are fading away... Tampa has won their last 10.

Tampa has been steady all year, never going into long losing streaks. The Yankees have been hot and cold all year. So many peaks and valleys, no consistency.

Yup... Tampa's a problem but Yanks did take 2 outta 3 from them in Tampa. As everyone knows... playoffs are a crapshoot. The big question is can this Yankee get hot for any sustainable amount of time.

The one game play in is a huge crapshoot. They could have a game like last night or one like they had during the win streak. I always said the wild card play in should be three games. Tough to have an off night and pack the bags.

currently 8 games behind Tampa for the AL East so best strategy is to clinch top WC and line up Cole to pitch the play in game.

Seems reasonable to think his struggles early on were a product of the surgery and long layoff.  Now he may well be hitting a wall.  But overall seems like he should be a solid #3 next year.

That was my thinking too. He may be hitting a wall now. 2 years is quite a bit of time off. But I do like him going forward next year. Cashman may not always have luck on the top of the rotation ( although Cole is great) but he does a very good job finding middle and end of rotation options to round out the rotation.

I think Tailon will be fine. He's got to work his way back into game shape sometime and unfortunately this is the time. But on a side note, why am I getting the idea that Cashman is gonna' trade Gil and Allen because they're in the way of whatever 'not too smart' master plan he's thought up.

even if they play the Red sox in the wild card,  no way the Yankees beat the Rays.  I'm  sorry  but  just  isn't  going  to  happen.  Why all of a sudden  would they be able to beat the rays  plus  I  wouldn't be surprised  if  we end up the second wild card. The Rays lost the world series last year,  you can tell they want to go back and win it this year.  and  I  think they will.  The  Yankees  just don't seem motivated.  just  think  they  almost  lost  Friday  night  too.  Its  embarrassing  because  the  Rays  payroll so much lower  and yet the team  wins.
