When asked about his offside penalty that cost the Giants a win over the nameless team, Dexter Lawrence first took ownership of the mistake saying he had to be more disciplined. When asked if that's the kind of play that would keep him up all night thinking about it, his reaction was (paraphrased), "I like to sleep. I get plenty of sleep."
On the cover, it's probably a true and accurate assessment. I'm sure he likes to sleep. However, when you just cost your team a game, you should understand how that kind of comment comes across to the media and fans. He didn't have to say that he'd be up all night rethinking the play. He simply could have said "I don't know about sleep, but what I do know is that I've got to come back out in practice and work my ass off to make sure it doesn't happen again."
We thought Judge was going to bring discipline to this team and in some places it appears he has. However, Lawrence's comments aren't those of a player who puts team above self. Players getting in the OC's face on the sidelines isn't a disciplined team (whether or not I agree with Garrett's terrible play calls). Judge and Garrett played Thursday night not to lose instead of to win, and when you do that, you rarely win. Jones was the best player on the field on Thursday night; it's inexcusible that the Giants didn't give him the chance to win it on the last drive.
