somebody explain to me how this whitlock kid ends up from NY to boston? was he part of the Stanton trade? like what the .... did they get for him? hilarious!
He was not part of the Stanton trade, nor did they Yankees get anything for him.
"Genius" Cashman decided to protect the terrible Brooks Kriske instead of Whitlock in the Rule 5 draft. The Red Sox took him, and the rest is history. Another blunder by Cashman.
The problem going forward is that we have a lot more bad contracts than we have talent in our minor leagues. Cashman spent money like a drunk and it is going to take years to work our way out of his bad decisions.
That is why handing out more mega-deals to a shortstop, CF, or FA pitcher makes little sense. They need to move on from guys like Hicks, Sanchez, Kluber, maybe Gallo and Rizzo, possibly a couple of others. Get younger, and stop with the long term, bloated contracts.

The problem is that the Yankees are locked in to bad deals for years to come. Cashman sold out to win now...and didn't.

Not as bad as perceived. Cole, Stanton, DJLM, and Hicks are the long term ones.
Hicks is movable, at about $10m per, if they really want to do so. They may have to absorb some cash, but it would not be crippling. DJLM can be traded after 2022. Again, some money will have to be absorbed, but possible.

A lot of money comes off the books after 2022.
Hicks has averaged playing half a season, for 9 years. 82 games per, to be exact.
The Yankees would first need him to be healthy, and even then, will have to eat almost his entire contract. Nobody is gonna take him, otherwise. Why would they? He'll be 32. His numbers, when he wasn't broke, weren't very good. Who is gonna want some of that $10m/yr kinda of action??
His contract was stupid before the ink dried, and most of us knew it.
No need to trade DJ atm. He had a down year, but appears that he was nursing injury. See how he does after he heals.
Stanton appears to have turned the corner, and had a pretty good year. He seemed to get better when they played him on defense. Cole as well, but struggled post injury coming down the stretch. They are both expensive, but they are also two of the better players. The pitching staff would be lost without Cole, tbh.
People here are too anger to think logically. As Cole got taken out, offense did nothing to supply runs.
Blame is spread in many directions. Yankees have been inconsistent for the entire season. I was nervously sitting on edge wondering which Yankees version is playing tonight. We got our answer.
I bet there are several hidden injuries Yankees are attempting to play through. I would not be surprised if one of them is Cole.
Yankees season is over. They fought through inconsistencies. Time to move on...
First of all, I don't think they should have partied Sunday after the 1 to 0 win. Nothing to be proud of. Shameful Boone let them do that, I knew they'd lose to the Red Sox. But no way they would have beaten the Rays anyway. If they had by a miracle beaten Boston Do you really think the Rays then would have folded to the Yankees after Dominating them all years. And no way Boston now beats the Rays, no way. The Rays are on a mission, they are mad they lost to the Dodgers last year. I think the Rays will play the Giants and the Rays win this year. The Rays don't do these huge long contracts, when a star Rays player contract comes up, they move on and get these gritty players who have the drive to win. The Yankees get caught with all these long term contracts, then the players do bad and they don't have money to try and get these less costly gritty players. I am tired of Judge saying our mission is to win this year, He says it every year, then they play like crap. It's embarrassing....All I kept hearing Tuesday on sports shows was that the Yankees would win because they have a better bullpen the Boston....you all know the results there. I don't care if Sanchez or Torres are young, move on , I don't see why they'd change all of a sudden. Don't hand out a huge contract to some shortshop, or in 2 years, people will be saying we shouldn't have done that big contract. Learn from the Rays Cashman. No ways the Rays will let the Red Sox win in next round. Don't hand out big money long term contracts...they don't work for the Yankees. Boone should go, He doesn't fire up the team.
