It's strange though because he's also saying you have to rely on Judge.   Whose best season by far was 2017, when he played in 2 more games than Gallo did in 2021 - and also struck out 208 times.

I don't care if Gallo strikes out 300 times.   I'd just like to see him hit 40+ home runs, walk over 100 times, and try and hit over .240/.250.

Dude, strike outs are bad.  40 home runs, 60 home runs, whatever.  Strike outs are bad.

Not to mention fact that if you strike out 250-300 times there is no way you can hit.240/.250. Yeah 40 homers is great but how many men do you leave on base striking out that much and how many nonproductive outs do you have (not advancing runners). The fundamentals of the game have always been so important yet people focus on the glamor aspects like home runs and exit velo.

Who has ever struck out 250-300 times?   213 is the highest total of Gallo's career.   208 is Judge's high, and he hit .284 with all those strikeouts and also lead the league in walks (Gallo also led the league in walks to go with his 213 whiffs).

Ruth led the league in whiffs 5 times.   Same for Reggie, who holds the career record for whiffs.

If you got 500 ABs and whiffed 300 times and got hits the other 200 times, you'd hit .400.

I don't mind having some guys that strike out if they produce in other ways, like with power, walks and defense.

Ruth also had a lifetime BA of 342, Reggie was 262. Comparing Gallo's HRs and Ks with these guys isn't telling the entire story.

First of all I was responding to someone who posted the following, "I don't care if Gallo strikes out 300 times.   I'd just like to see him hit 40+ home runs, walk over 100 times, and try and hit over .240/.250." Oh wait that was you did you forget already.

As someone else pointed out Gallo is a lifetime .206 hitter. None of the players you mentioned were that bad. All of them had respectable BAs even Reggie which means even though they struck out alot they still got their share of hits., The problem with Gallo is even when he does not strike out he makes outs other ways. That is the only way you can hit .200 lifetime and K over 200 times a year.

People made a big stink with Judge getting thrown out at the plate in the wild card game. It may have been a questionable send but everything went right on the defensive side that enabled them to throw him out. Fact is Gallo was up next and the chances were he was not going to get the run in anyway. If I recall he popped out to short left. The guy is not someone you want up with the game on the line. All the other guys you mentioned including Ruth, Reggie and even Judge would be guys you would want up there.

With that being said, all legit, shame on Boone or whoever makes out the lineup for having Gallo in the cleanup spot. I would not have batted him higher than 6 or 7.

Whether you think Gallo is going to the HOF or the water closet it remains that the manager had him batting cleanup. A third base coach is not supposed to be working to avoid the cleanup batter at the plate with runners at first and third. Maybe Nevin thought Gallo should have been on the bench or off teh team. None of that matters. The manager made the lineup and the coach is paid to support it.

Running Judge was an awful decision.

I don't believe Nevin was thinking at the moment, oh god Gallo is up next I've got to send Judge, Gallo will never get him in. I think it was spontaneous and didn't work, right or wrong. Sometimes you're the bug sometimes you're the windshield.
