Your comments made me think - and ask about - what the Red Sox might have done if faced with runners on 1st and 3rd, one out and Gallo at the plate. That is why I put the last sentence in bold. Teams played Gallo with an exagerrated shift and 2) We know the guy can bunt. With a SS playing far off 3rd the bag a bunt could easily have scored a run and left the Yankees with two runners on and just one out. If the RS played a more conventional defense, Gallo's chances for getting a hit go way up. I've grown to hate the shfits. I am happy if the shift cost the Dodgers the game...or even more. And I am still fuming over losing the WC to the Red Sox.

If the Red Sox had shifted on Gallo as they normally do he could've easily laid down a bunt which would've scored Judge. But even if they did, my guess is Yanks still would've looked for at least a sac fly from him which, oddly enough, he's only done twice in his career. But I wouldn't say his chances of getting a hit would go up if they played him straight away. More likely a K.
My original point was the Braves might not have had the opportunity to win the game in the 9th had it not been for agressive baserunning in the 8th. As has been said...when it works you're a hero, when it doesn't you're a goat.
Gallo could strike out on a date with his wife. That is always a reality. But the brain trust had him at 4 and we had to bat him next. Even had Judge scored Gallo still had to produce for the Yankees to tie the game. But had Gallo struck out...which we both agree often happens, the next match up was Gleyber Torres with runners at the corners. Not the worst. I am beating a dead horse but that send will bother me for as long as Torre's decision to pull in his infield.

I reviewed the play again on YouTube and have to admit that SSBob and Bumper were correct. The play was quite a bit closer than I first thought. However, still think it was a really bad decision to send him.

Former Yankees coach Brian Butterfield is no longer the Angels 3B coach. Maybe the Yankees rehire him?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Great coach. Did the Angels let him go, or did he decide to retire?
the bottom 6 of the lineup was putrid. i woulda bumped gleyber up to cleanup and dropped gallo to 5th but guessing they didn't want 3 RH bats in a row and "maybe" gallo provides stanton w some protection. after that it was gardy, gio, higgy & velasquez, so pick your poison.
The Angels let Butterfield go. If the Yankees don't hire him, my guess is that the Marlins will.
Thanks Prof. It's always nice reading your posts. The other forum pretty much lost me, I posted some of the reasons why about a week or two ago.
