A knee jerk post.  Can you explain what Thames did to turn them into a less than mediocre ofensive team after several years of being one of the top offensive teams prior to 2021?  of course you cannot because we fans never get to see what Thames and the other hitting coach are doing.

Unlike Nevin whose blunders were right there during games for eveyrone to see we never see Thames' work.   After 3 years we have no idea if the reason the Yankees grounded into so many DPs is because Thames suddenly changed everyone's apporach.

I'm not saying Thames shouldn't have been fierd.  Maybe it simply is time for a nwe voice because the players aren't lsitening to what he is trying to teach.  But if he is to blamer for 2021'a iodfffensive malaise, he ought to get a lot of credit for how well they hit in previous years.

Situational hitting isn't on Thames, I think it is good to bring in a brand new coaching staff to shake things up a bit.

For as long as I've been here Jonah's answer to every issue is to fire someone.

Situational hitting is 100% on Thames and the Yankees' hitting philosophy which he either led or bought into.  The Yankees' philosophy doesn't tend toward good situational hitting and they've turned the lineup into launch angle robots.

Isnt that the way it works in most businesses ... if you underperform they release you?

I do not think the "hitting philosophy" of the Yankees is dictated by Marcus Thames. I am not sure if hitting coaches matter much. I've live through Harry Walker, Charlie Lau, Walt Hrniak. Kevin Long and lots of other guys who had can't miss methods for teaching guys how to hit. I am not sure if you can do that. But I am sure that Marcus Thames is pretty much a working guy who had a good job but he was never a polciy maker for the Yankees. Don't pin this mess on him.

Very hard to believe Yanks are taking the same approach with all of their hitters.

Bunts and what not come from the manager, correct me if I'm wrong.  Thames can have them doing bunting drills for an entire afternoon but if the manager doesn't call for it then it won't happen.

Execution is on the players, not the coach.
