Agree about Seager. Judge's price is going up by the day.

The Yankees had their chances to lock him up earlier for a less money, more team-friendly contract, but that train has left the station now. They are going to have to pay dearly to retain him.

I posted elsewhere my belief that the owners are going to demand a hard cap on team payrolls and will be willing to bargain on almost anything else. That could make it a challenge for the Yankees to retain Judge.

I can't see that flying past the MLBPA, unless it is a cap that increases significantly each year. A cap would serve to keep salaries down, and the players won't take to that. Also don't feel that would be a roadblock to keeping AJ.

The Mets have ballooned their payroll to about $266 million now. Unless it is to be believed that the teams with high, bloated payrolls before a new agreement are grandfathered into those high payrolls.

Crazy money but is it any dumber than giving a guy like Hicks a 7 year contract?

In my opinion, no. Since Seager is 28 years old and can move to 3B in the future. He's also a much needed lefty hitter that the Yankees could use.

The Yankee could have used Seager as they wait for their 2 shortstop prospects to be MLB ready. Meanwhile, by the time one or both of those shortstop prospects are promoted to the Yankees, Cole the Yankees Ace pitcher is going to be a year or two older.

Hicks has a shot at making his contract look good. $10 mil a year isn't a lot of money for a MLB CF.

$32.5 mil AAV is a lot for any position.

He is a lifetime .233 hitter. He has played over 100 games only twice in his entire career. His performance has been on a down trend the last 3 years and he has 4 years left on this absurd contract. He has no shot at making this contract look good. This is the problem with this team. People keep waiting for Hicks to do something. 6 years into his career in NY and still waiting. Good luck. Listen no player is worth the money Seager got but at least he is star player and produces.

My point is that Hicks can still make the contract look good, He really just has to stay healthy, although that may be impossible. Seager has a lot more to live up to.

Seager is 28.   I think if Barry Bonds was 28 now and was given the same contract, and if he performed the same as he did from 28-38, he'd be an absolute steal.

Is it also absurd that the Twins just extended Buxton for 7 years and 100 million?   He's only topped 100 games once in his career.

Bonds was a roid head, he didn't need them but who knows what his true number would've been without PEDs.

OK then would a 28 year old Jeter be worth that same deal?

Why are you comparing a hitter that is in nowhere near the same league to Jeter?  Yeah a 28 year old Jeter is worth a stupid contract because he had already helped the Yankees win 4 world championships.  Corey Seager is often injured so who knows how his body will hold up, giving him 10 years is just stupid.

If that were the case that deal would've been in place already, there's no team loyalty anymore.

I am really questioning the idea that no player is worth that kind of contract, because some do come along who are worth it.

Bonds would have been worth it because roids or not, he knew how not to get caught and he produced.

I'm not saying no player is not worth a stupid mega contract but those types of deals used to be reserved for players that were putting up future HoF stats.  Are players like Marcus Semien and Corey Seager and soon to be getting mega contract Carlos Correa future HoFers?  With the stats that they aren't putting up, no they aren't.  So why are teams paying them like they are?
