99% of the players are all about the money, that's nothing new.

We tend to forget that playing professional sports is a job and, for most, a short-lived one. Sure, it’d be a nice bonus to have a championship ring, but the primary objective is to earn as much in the short period they have to do so. Fans shouldn’t expect players to sacrifice income for our entertainment.

You're right, I was never mad at Cano for signing with the M's, like some Yankee fans were.

I have friends/acquaintances who played pro ball...several who played MiL and a few who made it to the bigs. One who played 6 years MLB after 6 years knocking around the minors. Most he ever made was $25K (approx $110K in today's dollars), but he does get a pension today...somewhere around $40K I believe. I know several much younger guys thru youth sports leagues I've been involved with or organizations my grandsons have played with who made it to MLB but had their careers cut short early due to injuries. I don't believe they get any pension money.

The point is...these guys have spent much of their lives doing what it takes to become one of the very few to play pro ball. For every one who makes it there are literally thousands who don't. There is no loyalty...teams and frankly fans have no problem at all throwing them on the trash heap once their value has diminished, so no one should begrudged them for cashing in when the opportunity presents itself.

Yanks need some genuine talent at SS, not these bargain basement guys.  Cashman, give me the checkbook and step aside.  Gawd!

Exactly! I have worked for everything I have and will always respect the labor in any industry, sports included. The owners seem to forget who the fans pay to see...
