I'd move Stanton for an elite shortstop in a "New York" minute. It is not his fault, but you just cannot compare a DH to a SS.

Do you consider Baez to be elite?   He costs more towards the luxury tax threshold per season than Stanton.

Semien has had 2 great seasons in his career, the rest have been about league average.    He costs more per year and for a longer deal.

And Stanton is actually a pretty good OF when they play him there.

Baez has the reputation as a very good defender in an era marked by great SS play. I think most would rate him no higher then 7th and maybe as low at 12th, but he is clearly still a fully capable major leaguer.

No matter how good a DH is, he only plays half the game. And when you have a DH who cannot play the field, your bench is very short 162 times each season. No knock on Stanton. He is a tremendous force when he is hitting, But the fact is that he plays half a position and consumes a full roster spot and 10% of the payroll. Not a great deal.

He is a pretty capable outfielder, assuming he's healthy and that the Yankees aren't being over protective of him.   He's no JD Martinez who can barely play the field.   Stanton is about a 6 out of 10 type of outfielder.

How many other players hit like him in the post season?   I want a guy like that on my side.

Maybe Stanton can play the outfield. Still, you cannot pay him for elite defense if he does not tale the field. Stanton did hit in the playoffs, but that does not make him worth 10% of he payroll. We know the formula does not work because the Yankees have not been in the World Series in over a decade.

Stanton's contract looks more tradable, Hick's contract even more so.

Stanton would be perfect playing for SD. As would Jake Cronenworth be with the Yankees.

How many teams are calling to acquire him? None? Then it's still a terrible, unmovable contract.

How do you know what goes on behind closed doors? Do you know for a fact NONE have showed interest? It's possible there has been some interest, it's possible there's been none. You or any fan doesn't know that.  Bottom line is his NTC is the key factor.

yup people can whine all they want about stanton but bottom line is he has a no trade. and i really think he likes playing here & being a yankee and feels he has something to prove here especially if he can lead us to a championship.

as for him "clogging" up the DH, as long as his health permits, he will play more OF. maybe he gets up to 30-40% of the games - hopefully more. even if he mostly DHs, there are a number of DHs in the HOF including edgar martinez, frank thomas and paul molitor. pretty sure the red sox fans didn't complain about ortiz being a DH or JD martinez (currently making $19.35 mil but made $23.75 for a number of years).

The team as a whole has come up short, but not because of Stanton.   If the entire lineup hit like him, they would have won the WS in both 2020 and 2021.   He's part of the solution, but they need more.

Ask Santa if he can make that happen. I would ask, but you know I have not been very good this year and can't expect much !

If team are not calling about him, it is due to the NTC. Players have waived thier NTC's. If Stanton knew the Yankees wanted to move him, I believe he would also waive it, to certain teams.

His contract is no longer so onerous, and the LAD and SDP surely would have some interest, especially if, as expected, the DH comes to the NL.

Dear Santa Claus,

I hate to bring this up, but I need a favor. Remember all those years when I was a child and other children were leaving cookies and milk? Well, instead of milk I would leave you cookies and some of my Dad's scotch to warm you up. So can you please have the Yankees trade Stanton to the Padres for Cronenworth and have the Padres also include McKenzie Gore in the trade. While I'm asking, can you also let the A's trade Olson to the Yankees and please make sure that Hicks is in that trade and have the Yankees sign Chris Taylor to play CF and pitcher Carlos Rodon.

Thank you Santa Claus, you're the best.

Love, Max

PS, again, thank you for the Yankees 2009 championship. The Yankees think they won it on their own, but you and I know better. Wink
