I'd move Stanton for an elite shortstop in a "New York" minute. It is not his fault, but you just cannot compare a DH to a SS.
Stanton's contract looks more tradable, Hick's contract even more so.
Stanton would be perfect playing for SD. As would Jake Cronenworth be with the Yankees.
Unless you are kidding, or I missed some transaction, why would the SDP want to move Cronenworth?

Do you consider Baez to be elite? He costs more towards the luxury tax threshold per season than Stanton.
Semien has had 2 great seasons in his career, the rest have been about league average. He costs more per year and for a longer deal.
And Stanton is actually a pretty good OF when they play him there.
Baez has the reputation as a very good defender in an era marked by great SS play. I think most would rate him no higher then 7th and maybe as low at 12th, but he is clearly still a fully capable major leaguer.
No matter how good a DH is, he only plays half the game. And when you have a DH who cannot play the field, your bench is very short 162 times each season. No knock on Stanton. He is a tremendous force when he is hitting, But the fact is that he plays half a position and consumes a full roster spot and 10% of the payroll. Not a great deal.
Stanton isn't a full time DH by choice. He hit better last season when he played OF. They should rotate him and Judge in RF and DH to keep them both fresh and sharp over the season.

I've always loved Stanton, I do feel like his swing can look sloppy at times and he chases way too many bad pitches. But other than that he has proven time and time again that he hits best when it matters most. He almost single handedly won us the WC game against Boston but the wind had other ideas.

That was a lighthearted post. I just put his name out there, because he would be a perfect player for the Yankees to trade for.
Not sure if SDP would trade Cronenworth. But with that said, any player is tradable if the trade makes sense.

The Padres are becoming George's Yankees... They are seemingly "in" on every FA. I have followed them for years too, but not so much lately. The stuff I do see points in that direction. They need to keep Cronenworth.
