Looks like another year with Gary behind the plate. Can a reunion with Gardner be far behind? And now a lockout looming. This is fantastic what a great time to be a Yankee fan. BTW ....Every other eligible Yankee was also tendered a contract.

Yanks had no choice. No catcher wanted to sign with the Yanks.

Who are those catchers that didn't want to sign with the Yankees or are you making things up as usual??

Actually, the question should be what catcher out there would be much of an upgrade over Sanchez?

Bingo. Some people just don't get it. Why would you non tender Sanchez when there are currently no other options? And please just drop the notion of Higgy being more than a backup. He was a disaster at the plate and quite frankly average defensively.
Here is another thought. Maybe the Yanks do get another catcher to replace Sanchez through a trade (Cubs?) and if so maybe they can trade Sanchez. You think he does not have much of a market? Well that all changes when the NL goes to the DH this year. I am sure there are plenty of teams that would like Sanchez as a DH and part time catcher. I also think they can do the same with Voit. Another DH in the waiting with some value to NL teams.

Do you want it in alphabetical order or in iambic pentameter?
Or do you want the simple fact Sanchez is not a catcher?

Once again;
There are no other options because the Yankees passed on Tucker Barnhart, Jacob Stallings, Jorge Alfaro, Yan Gomes, Many Pina, and Roberto Perez. All went to other teams for alot less than what Sanchez will make. All are beter defensively and a couple are arguably better hitters.

I think the Scherzer signing vividly illustrated what most of us believed: Players sign where they get the most money.

IMO Sanchez would be better in a different situation. The Yankees want an elite pitch framer who hits 45 home runs and can deal with a prima donna star pitcher. Sanchez is a poor defensive catcher who can hit home runs. The Yankees can't love him or leave him and that never works out.

Barnhart was available and cheaper. The Yankees could have traded mid level prospects and acquired the Pirates catcher. The Yankees didn't even give Donny Sands a chance to be their starting catcher. So I guess the writing was on the wall that they would tender a contract to Sanchez.
I wouldn't mind Sanchez's lack of defensive skills if he at least had a .240 average and struck-out less. Don't know their asking price, but Contreras might be available if the Cubs are in a full rebuild.
