Should the Yankees be interested in the Mets’ Dominic Smith? - Pinstripe Alley

The Mets’ Jeff McNeil has tremendous upside but red flags for any trade - Pinstripe Alley

Sounds like the Mets will trade at least one, and with Cohen now as their owner maybe the ban on trading with the Yankees might be over.

McNeil is older but he's the one I'd go for out of the two.  If he can bounce back, he's exactly what they have lacked recently in the lineup.   He can hit for a high average and not strike out much, and he's a LH hitter.  He's not great anywhere defensively but is very versatile.

Dom Smith would be more of a Voit replacement.   I really wouldn't mind him either, but he's a big drop-off from Matt Olson.  I wonder if the Mets would move both of them?

Wouldnt touch either one of these guys

Smith Sux ... career .756 OPS from 1B is pathetic (.312 OBP, Slow, Fat and Bad Fielder) definitely a downgrade over Voit who is an emotional leader

McNeil ... Deosn't fill a poisition of need ...not a good fielder and injury prone ... He's a LH poor mans DJL

Would not touch either as well but Smith is not a good outfielder but he is a good defensive first baseman. Light years ahead of Voit. Also How can Voit be an emotional leader when he misses over half the games every year. Please. Voit is so overrated on this Board its ridiculous.

I don't care who owns the Mets, I doubt if the Mets would trade McNeil to the Yankees, unless the Yankees are willing to overpay. Can you imagine if the Mets trade McNeil to the Yankees and he starts hitting .300 again?

Just speculating of course, but let's say if the trade for McNeil was fair. McNeil would be a good fit for the Yankees. McNeil is a lefty, he doesn't strikeout much and until the 2021 season he had a high OBP. Since he can play LF,  that will allow Gallo or Judge to be the Yankees full time CF. To those who might not like that idea, here's a question for you. Would you rather have Gallo or Judge play CF or Hicks?

I think the demands...running...in center field is too much for a guy as big as Judge to do 140 times a year. What I don't know is if Gallo is a better defensive center fielder than Hicks is.  Hopefully Stanton can play 70 games or more in the outfield in 2022 split between left and right.

The better answer is that they go out and get a legit centerfielder. Its time they stop playing guys out of position or putting guys in a position where they are better suited elsewhere. They need Judge to stay healthy. Playing him in CF is inviting an injury.

Hicks

I'd rather have an outfield of Stanton/Gallo (LF) Hicks/Florio (CF) Judge/Gallo (RF)
