I don't want a party that has gone so far to the extreme as the Republicans have to be in complete control of legislation. While I'm not happy with the direction the Democrats are going, at least there are a few Democrats in congress that are still looking to bring bi-partisan gov't back to our country.

Manchin and Sinema?  What extremism?  Only one party is pushing to fundamentally chamge everything altering the relationship between citizen and government.  I thought you just hated Trump as a person.

You and I had a pretty respectful relationship on these boards all the years pre Trump. I respected your opinion even though I disagreed with most of them. Somehow you and your party believe it is now your sole responsiblity to defend that horrible human being.

Not sure how many times I have to say this but I don't like Trump the person.  I fundamentally oppose the political agenda of his political enemies.

The fact that it is now OK to display racist tendencies,

What racist tendencies?  I treat people as individuals with agency over their behavior.  The Democrats have adopted a racial essential agenda that I find fundamnetally bigotted.  Race relations have been plummetting since Bush was in office.  In my lifetime I couldn't be as racially ignorant, condescending, and insensitive as our current President has been publically throught his career.

it is now ok to look the other way with the attack on the capitol,

Who is looking the other way with the attack on the capital?  There were over 700 arrests.  Have you seen anyone defending the perpetrators?  I don't buy into it being some sort of coup.  It upsets me that there were no convictions from the 217 arrests for violent crimes at the 2016 inauguration.  I am also upset about the excusing of the viscous and ugly lawlessness of the 2020 summer riots.  Could you only imagine if your kennel got caught up in something like that?

it is now OK th do whatever can be done to restrict Americans voting rights,

That is a complete red herring.  Obama and Carter used to be against postal voting.  Now you want everyone to be mailed a ballot?  You want party operatives going door to door collecting them?  You want no ID to vote?  You want party operatives fluffing the lines to vote with food, drink, or merch? (That one reminds me of the political bosses in The Jungle) We are supposed to adopt pandemic emergency voting procedures for now on?  Nothing the legislatures have implemented were the least bit controversial prior to 2021 and in no way are Jim Crow or a poll tax

it's now OK to stop looking out for our neighbors and fellow Americans

We never agreed on this.  I believe in a hand up, not a hand out.  That you muat beware skewing incentives.

has hardened me against the Republican party even though there are some policies I can agree with.

I obviously only know you from your postings here but since Trump, I believe you have either changed or perhaps the true you has surfaced. I'm not sure which but your political stances has caused me to lose all respect for you along with  the rest of the Trumpie world.

My views and beliefs have remained consistent.  The same can't be said for even our current President

Fabulous! Can you show me a few posts where you acknowledge Biden won the election? How about a couple of posts where you condemed the riot at the capitol without mentioning the sumer violence. Sadly Trump has enabled phonies like you to come out of their hole and express your emboldened ideas. You know I'll give guys like craner credit, he let us know he was one of the crazies even before Trump was elected

I haven't changed my tune.  Inwas never biting my tongue.  Not sure where you got that idea.

your hand seems to be up unless there is somethinhg in it for you, then it seems to go out pretty quick.

Yep...it's always been crystal clear to me that you're a far right whackadoodle conspiracist masquerading as a conservatarian.

there was another poster on this board that was one of my favorites and we disagreed politically. He gave the appearence of leaning right but when he went to another board his true colors came out. LL wasn't this nutty pre Trump

LL has always been obvious to me. As for the other poster, pretty sure I know who you're talking about...another I had pegged very quickly. You may recall a few clashes.

Of course, I hadn't been influenced by years of their previous posts.

you did peg it quickly. I think we can also safely acknowledge that I am not quite as far left as many of the posters dowstairs so there were probably a few more issues I was in agreement with him on. fact is after he moved I'm not even sure he believed what he was posting here. He's crazy too.

That's my point, Trump seemed to make it OK for people that leaned right to swing to the extreme and be vocal about it.

Hand up or hand out. Suggesting I am greedy. I am not ambitious, skirt responsibility, and more often than not spend on experiences over material items. I just fundamentally believe that greater overall prosperity is achieved by leaving people to their own devices and it takes some true autocratic arrogance to think that collective goals can draw the best out of people or be fulfilling to anyone not taking the lead.

Although I’ve been called a “radical leftist” by the head loon here, my politics have always been more “centrist”…at times leaning “conservative”…in the true, traditional sense. I’ve said many times that I’ve voted for far more Republicans than Dems over the years.

While I’ve certainly disagreed on specific issues with various presidents, Democrats & Republicans, I’ve never had the utter disdain for any that I have for the treasonous scumbag that is Donald Trump and those who continue to support and enable him.

I suppose if we try to find a silver lining re Trump it’s that a bright light has been shone on the large number of supremacists, fascists and general loons in this country. They’ve always existed, of course, but I and probably most others never imagined to this extent.

Considering all that’s happened over the past several years and the state of the current version of the Republican party, it’s hard to maintain optimism re the future of our democracy and country.

It's damn scary Bob, but just about everything you said is frighteningly true... I'm so scared for the future of this country and I never thought one man would be responsible, but donald is pulling it off along with the treasonous people in some pretty damn high places.. Our Constitution absolutely means nothing to the (R) party anymore... I'm sad to say I once was a proud (R), but no more, the party that I once belonged to, is a disgrace to the world of democracy...

I've always been a registered independent, with a few excursions into either party in order to vote in primaries. For instance, I changed my registration to Republican in '16 to vote for Kasich; in '20 to vote for Biden because I felt he had the best shot at beating Trump. But, as I said, I've voted for plenty of Republicans in general elections...the last one being McCain.

The Republican Party of today is not even close to what it was just a few years ago. It has become an anti-democracy cult of personality, which started with being hijacked by "Tea Party" members.

The only way the party can get back to its roots is for it to suffer a string of defeats, which is why even long-standing, truly conservative Republicans in hopes of rebuilding are advocating for others to vote a straight Democratic ticket until the anti-democracy turds are flushed away.
