Jan. 15 is the first day of the international signing period and the Yankees are expected to sign the #1 prospect, 17 year old Dominican shortstop Roderick Arias.

 From NJ.com.

Here's a scouting report on Arias from MLB.com’s Jesse Sanchez:

“The top prospect in the class, Arias has plus-arm potential. His throws are accurate and effortless, and he’s always in a position to make them. He also shows good footwork with soft hands and above-average range.

“At the plate, he exhibits above-average bat-to-ball skills and strike-zone awareness. He shows good plate discipline and doesn’t swing and miss often. He shows power from both sides of the plate, especially the right side. There’s good opposite-field power from the left side, and the overall package could develop into a plus-plus hitter. The Yankees are the favorites to sign him.”

Instead of having an A-Rod, the Yankees will now have a Rod-A.  Interesting.

I can't see why people aren't more excited/psyched about Rod-A's imminent signing.   Sure we're in a lockout now, but this kid is being compared to Wander Franco.   And he should be the exact opposite personality-wise to A-Rod, which will be the perfect baseball player.

Remains to be seen if the Yankees can develop him.  Track record says otherwise.

Raw potential doesn't always translate into big league success.  Wander Franco only has 70 big league games under his belt, he's no way a sure thing either.

Plus hes 17 years old a lot can change ... or he may have already peaked phyiscally plenty of top 10 talents have failed at the next level (i.e clint Frazier)

Jasson Dominguez, who has been compared to Bo Jackson, Mickey Mantle and Mike Trout, was not very impressive in his 1st season.

There is a chance the he becomes to bulky to play center field and injuries are always a concern with dense muscle.  But we will see ... hard to get too excited after seeing so many sure things fail

Track record? huh? The Yankee track has been excellent for the past few years. It's 2022, not 2002 or even 2012.

The only problem the Yankees have, with regards to these players, is keeping them healthy and focused.
