Yes, and wines have good and bad years, so . . . why not another chance? His fielding is special, but so, so far, are his K's. But didn't we put up with Curtis Anderson for a while?

Gallo's been a K machine his entire career, and I didn't see anything "special" re his fielding.

Really? A few writers at Pinstripes would disagree, as do I. But whatever.

Disagree re what...his fielding?

Yeah...he's won a couple of  GGs but he looked clumsy in YS LF at times...misplayed a few balls. I suppose that could be attributed to a new ballpark, but I didn't see anything special.

Bob, yes, I meant his fielding. I did happen to see him make at least two exceptional plays (one a strong-armed throw to home to nail a runner). I understand your skepticism about him, though, given his stupid K swings. I'm just hoping for something better from him if we ever have a 2022 season.

Of course everyone is hoping for better. But the Yanks don't need another swing-n-miss guy in the lineup, and the fact that he's a LH hitter really doesn't do much to break up the lineup from a pitcher's perspective. He's equally bad against RH pitching, and the irony is that he doesn't really benefit from the short RF porch. His HRs are long moonshots.

We'll see--maybe I'm probably just hoping for miracles. I do think, though, that his power-presence in the line-up gives opposing pitchers a certain self-conscious pause--more so than any other OF we have excepting Judge or (when he's allowed to play OF) Stanton. One of the reasons I hope Cashman/Hal decides to go after Suzuki is that we'd then have genuine lineup options.

I agree 100% regarding his fielding ... there were a few times where Gallo looked like a little league player ...really bad plays

On the otherhand I was very impressed with Stanton in LF this year and hope he palys at least half the games in the OF this year. He looked very good in the field and that may be what made him the player he was supposed to be offensely.
