yeah wouldn't call the contract an "albatross". certainly for what we've gotten out of him, he hasn't been worth the $10.75mil/yr but the money amount isn't terrible like some other contracts. he's a long way off from his 30/30 goal Laughing. at the time extending judge would have been the smarter move. 3 more years after this one.

I wish the Yankees were free to move on from Aaron Hicks, but his deal is in line with those given to other establsihed players who can play center. See AJ Pollock, Kevin Kiermaier.  While I am not a fan of the guy, he is not blocking a better player from getting starts.

It's not really that big.

What makes it painful is that he's been injured an awful lot through the 2019-21 seasons.

Even now, mired in a slump, he's been worth 0.6 bWAR so far this season. If he keeps that up the whole season, he'll be worth over 3 bWAR (about 2 fWAR). Even the lower number has a marginal salary value of roughly $12 million. So if he can just do what he's done until now, and stay healthy most of the year, he'll be worth what he's being paid.

The brutal fact of the matter is: $10 million a year is not really all that much for a veteran regular.

2022 with RISP 2-18. That includes once again coming up empty in game 1 when he struck out with 2nd and 3rd and one out in the 7th inning. Torres bailed him oot with walk off.

Lifetime with the bases loaded (56 at bats) .132.

He is what the back of his baseball card says.

You lost me with mired in a slump. The guy has been in the league what 8/9 years now and he has a lifetime average of .238. So the fact he is hitting .250 to me means he has over achieved and more likely headed towards his career stats.

Joey Gallo is the one that puzzles me...
He's blocking Andujar and Florial for platoning in Lf... Florial is just as fast as LaCastro!

Maybe we should pivot this thread to how big a mistake $35 M for 10 years to Aaron Judge would be.  Let some other team pay him $35 M to strike out with the bases loaded.

Jacoby Ellsbury, Carl Pavano, Kei Igawa... THOSE were albatross contracts.

Albatross? Huh? LOL....are serious?

I don't think you know how to use that word, "Albatross".

NO....it's not an albatross

I have said this about a million times here, and people still don't get it? When Hicks signed that contract some years ago, even then it was okay. It was tradeable. Today, not only is STILL tradeable, but the yankees can clearly DFA him.

Personally, I don't mind if the Yankees trade. He's too sensitive (perhaps effiminate) a person for the Yankees to keep him. After all, he needs to take days off for racially sensitive events. I mean C'mon....BE A MAN!!!!

Second, IMO, it's Hicks' stupid leg kick that throws off his timing. He's trying to hit, as per how the analytics say that he should hit. However, in the process of doing so, it seems to me that his timing off. Looking at videos of years with the Twins, it doesn't seem he has a big leg kick. He needs to work with Dillon Lawson.
