We all know that Cashman has a thing for former Red Sox players.  Bogaerts has an opt out at the end of the season and if he does he will certinly command more than the $20 M a year he is currently making and is scheduled to make thru the 2025 season.

My question is if he opts out does he make sense for the Yankees?  He will turn 30 in October so he is not a long term soklution to SS

I doubt it, considering they passed on all the big ticket SSs this past off-season.   Bogaerts might switch to 3b, but the Yanks will still have Donaldson in 2023 - plus IKF, who might get pushed for playing time at SS by guys like Peraza and Volpe.

It seems that Boston management has made Bogaerts unhappy, so I'm sure Cashman is just trying to push up THEIR price...

I doubt that Cashman signs him unless for some reason he trades the Yankees top 2 shortstop prospects. The Yankees have other priorities. They have to decide if they are going to re-sign Judge and for how much. Chapman, Britton, Green, and Castro are also free agents. So is Gallo.

Britton and Gallo are pretty easy decisions

I would try to extend Chapman and Castro at a bargain price right now if they'd  be interested

I agree that Bogaerts doen't fit any current need or any projected need in 2023.  I just don't rule out Cashnma's fascination with former RS.  This thread would not have even occurred to me if Bogaerts were on some other team, say, the White Sox.

Some team willl offer Chapman closer money, maybe not $18 M but I doubt it will be the Yankees.  If Britton pitches at all in 2022 and still has an above average ground ball rate I could see them offering him a "show me" contract fotr 2023 with $10-$12 for 2024 if he meets certain performance goals for things like IP, WHIP, etc.

Why woud I give Bogaerts the deal that I don't want to give Judge ?   The man is a very good ballplayer, but he is a much better hitter at Fenway than he is on the road.  I already have a 3rd baseman for the next 5 years in DJ and a second baseman in Torres.

If Xander is not signed by the trade deadline, do not be surprised if he is moved regardless of where Boston is in the standings.

If they were going to sign a big ticket FA SS, the one that made the most sense was Seager, and they passed.

Here's a question for you: why does Bogaerts wear #2?
