Gallo is so strong I don't understand why he doesn't try to become a more contact oriented hitter instead of swinging for the fences. I know he said he tried in the past and it didn't work out but pretty much his whole career has been this approach and it ain't working either. Does he not get envious at how Judge and Stanton can carry the team? He could go the same if he wasn so stubborn.
with his uppercut swing, his bat is in the zone for a very short time. he can't get to the pitch at the top of the zone. probably a difficult adjustment to make particularly since he believes his game is hitting HRs no matter the cost to his overall hitting.
He cannot handle pitches at the top of the zone or higher, so he should not be swinging at them. Particularly if he has such a good batting eye with his many walks. LH batters usually like to drop the bat head down on lower inside pitches and pull them. I can't recall ever seeing a hiiter who swings and misses at so many strikes, which is his big problem.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I mentioned the "swing & miss" issue in another thread. He doesn't seem to take a lot of strikes. Could it be a vision problem? He wouldn't be the first power hitter to benefit from vision correction.
he has an excellent eye, he swings at those pitches probably because they're strikes. I wish the Yankees would try to convince him to change his approach his current one is terrible
The reality is, there isn't much feast. It's not like the guy goes on some torrid streaks where he is bashing HR's and knocking in runs. Even in the years he has had big HR totals, his RBI's are not in reasonable proportion. The majority of his homers appear to be the solo shots.
I'm tired of hearing about how great his defense is, a professional baseball player should make that catch he let bounce in front of him in the 9th inning last night...Chapman lives on the edge, they didn't have to push him off the cliff by not playing good defense when he's on the mound..
Platoon Hicks and Andujar in LF and release him others teams would have.
agree. thought any "good" LF'er would have made that catch. it was a shot but didn't think he had to travel to far to get to it. and yes chapman doesn't need any "help". you've got to make the plays behind him.
Gardner at his advanced age has a better chance of making contact, and wouldn't f*ck up easy fly balls like the other night.
