The thing that continues to amaze me about Chapman is the fact at times he becomes a mental midget. This is a veteran relief pitcher who has had an excellent career but at time he gets easily rattled which is mind boggling and not what you want in a guy that is constantly pitching with the game on the line. I mean you look at all the great closers the Yankees have had over the years like Lyle, Gossage and Mariano and sure on occasion they would blow a save but not due to having a mental breakdown such as being distracted by base runners or not being able to hit the strike zone. As many have said he does scare me in certain situations.

Watching the Yankee game last night when Chapman was pitching, I said something similar to your post. Chapman looked rattled, like he couldn't take the pressure. If I was correct, I said that I couldn't understand how a veteran pitcher seemed like he couldn't take the pressure in that situation.

His strikeouts are down, walks are up as is his overall WHIP (career 1.053, 2022, 1.371).  It's not like he is juuuuuuuuuuuust missing, a lot of his pitches arn't even close.
