well that was interesting ... was on the phone for last hour. another nail biter for chapman. started off well enough and then the wheels quickly came off. get the lefty on lefty thing w mullins but that could have gone seriously wrong. something's definitely not right w chappy. lost his fastball and when he tries to hump it up there, it goes over the backstop. boone's gotta use him in low leverage situations until he gets "right" (if possible). but we keep on winning ...

Isn't this Chapman doing what he does from time to time. I know it's never easy with this guy. He goes through these "slumps". And there's always drama.

yeah he does. just could be one of those things he goes through every season that he has to pitch his way out of. but a bit concerning because his FB velo is down. last night averaged a tick over 96 mph and a number of them weren't even close. over his last 8 appearances has only 4 Ks. think boone will be more judicious in how he uses him in the short term. ultimately we need him to be productive in whatever role he's in.

I think we sometimes forget that no relief pitcher is automatic. As Yankee fans we were spoiled for many years watching Mariano, because he was as automatic as anyone ever was.

AHHH memories!!

Few things more irritating than a relief pitcher, especially a closer, who can't throw strikes.

Poking around the internet I cam across this recently published article. The point is that Yabnkee fans have seen some great relief pitching over the years.

PS: As Yankee fans, we should give a nod to Dave Rhighetti as well.

Chapman has now given up a run in his last 4 appearances on 7 hits, 2 walks and only 4 strikeouts.  Really cannot use him in a one run game.

Taillon had a good first inning but struggled in the fourth inning. If the Yankees are looking to stretch King's innings so he can start next season, they should have let him pitch another inning. Kay said he's a starter and he wants to start. Chapman's pitches right now are all over the place, perhaps Holmes should close, at least for the time being. For what it's worth Gallo made solid contact twice. Another great game for Judge, and it looks like Torres is coming around. DJ continues to show he's a great fielder wherever the Yankees play him.

Honorable mention to Sparky Lyle who showed that a Closer doesn't have to be a strikeout pitcher. Not sure how Bruce Sutter and Lee Smith aren't on that top ten Closers list.
