The Mets are the shiny new toy in town, playing good baseball and with an owner who has made it clear money will not stand in the way of improving the team.  Sort of like George in his hey day without the college football coach mentality.

Still, "boring" though some may find the Yankees - they are not! - it is very encouraging that when the long winning streak was snapped we did not see them go into a slump where they lose 5 or 6 of the next 8 as happened in 2021.  But it does percolate in the back of the mind, how long can they keep this up while continuing to run out 3 black holes on ofense, Gallo, Hicks and the catcher.  The pitching has been outstanding and the top 6 in the lineup continue to produce night after night.

Wonder what the price tag for Soto would be.

It's no secret that the Nats are going to want a lot in return in any trade for Soto. Soto is in the conversation when it comes to which player might eventually be the best player in MLB.

But the Yankees shouldn't make any trade for Soto unless he signs a contract extension with them, because it would be foolish for the Yankees to trade their farm for Soto only to lose him to free agency in a few years.

As I tune into wfan in the wee mornings for a few minutes, host will say... Yankees stellar record is irreverent. Even if they win 120 games, losing in post season is an abject failure.

What Mets accomplish is much more meaningful/interesting. Unlike Yankees, Mets are exciting to watch. Yankees are ho hum and boring. The most talked about team in NY are the Mets.

The host said..I'm tired of Yankee fans calling to praise them. Let's see if they can maintain their position in the months ahead.

And here I thought the flagship station of the Yankees should at least pretend to express some compliments.

No surprise if it was Sal Licata. He is nothing but a Met shill. He is on SNY also and if you see him from his home studio he has nothing except Met stuff all over. No objectivity just a jealous whiny Met fan. No credibility either. A few weeks ago he was on SNY and they were picking best rotation in NY choosing between Met and Yankee starters. He only had one Yankee on his list and that was Cortez at number 3. He did not even have Cole in there because he said he could not be trusted. He chose Tyler Megill over Cole who has a lifetime record of 8-8 with an ERA over 4.4. He then says he based his decision on how they are currently pitching even though Cole was in the middle of his hot streak his last 6 starts. But it gets better. He also had Max Scherzer number 1 based on his career and Bassett as number 2. Fact is if he was being honest Based on this year no one has pitched better than Cortez and its not even that close. I just dislike these hosts that are pure phonies. That is why I don't listen anymore even to the WFAN. Between Boomer, Gio ,Evan and this clown they are all shills for the Mets and come football time the Jets. Not my cup of tea.

Not to say bad things can't happen to Yankees...McGill is on IL and Scherer is heading there...a trifecta with Degrom on top of the list. He's not likely to return till August.

That being said, Cohen will open up his wallet come july.

Which is likely more than can be said for Hal, even though the Mets payroll is already  something like $19 M more than the Yankees' payroll.  Cohen cetainly looks like an owner to whom winning is more important than the size of the year's profit margin.

I still remember the days where  Mets fans complain Yankess buying their championships.

Yes, and now the Mets are blatantly trying to buy a title. But no one will say that about them, only the Yankees.

A lot in return is putting it mildly. It will take a TON. Top ranked prospects, at least 4-5, plus possibly a top prospect pitcher, or a Mike King or Nestor Cortes to do any deal.

Soto rejected $350 million for 13 years from the Nats. That was their offer to him just before the lockout. What would you propose the Yankees would have to pay, should they obtain Soto?

My brother is a Mets fan. He said Mets fans are envious of the Yankees.as their previous owner was too cheap to up the ante.,

As presently constructed Mets have the highest payroll and their fan base is loving it.

I don't have an answer to that question. I would have to look at Trout's contract then take in consideration that the Mets are paying an excellent but soon to be a 38 year old pitcher 43 million dollars a year.
