Jill Filipovic also offered one of the best capsule analyses of Donald Trump that I have seen.  And voters who bothered to check out his record before they pulled the lever for him should have known better.  We all have had to suffer the consequences of their ignorance...willful or otherwise.

"Trump misled no one about who he was: A ruthless businessman who always put his own interests above all else; a man who did not believe the rules, legal or otherwise, applied to him; a demagogue whose campaign was largely bereft of policy but heavy on reactionary rhetoric."

Remember the premiere of season 6 of "The Handmaid's Tale" on September 14.  Meanwhile, in Gilead look-alike Texas, Governor Abbott is bowing to pressure to modify the state's post six week total ban on abortions by allowing rape victims to take the morning after pill if they report the crime.  Ain't that big of him?  A real humanitarian...

This is what we are facing...right now, right here in America.

From the New York Times:

"Three weeks before he won the Republican nomination for Pennsylvania governor, Doug Mastriano stood beside a three-foot-tall painted eagle statue and declared the power of God.

'Any free people in the house here? Did Jesus set you free?' he asked, revving up the dozens before him on a Saturday afternoon at a Gettysburg roadside hotel.

Mr. Mastriano, a state senator, retired Army colonel and prominent figure in former President Donald J. Trump’s futile efforts to overturn the state’s 2020 election results, was addressing a far-right conference that mixed Christian beliefs with conspiracy theories, called Patriots Arise. Instead of focusing on issues like taxes, gas prices or abortion policy, he wove a story about what he saw as the true Christian identity of the nation, and how it was time, together, for Christians to reclaim political power.

The separation of church and state was a 'myth,' he said. 'In November we are going to take our state back, my God will make it so.'

Mr. Mastriano’s ascension in Pennsylvania is perhaps the most prominent example of right-wing candidates for public office who explicitly aim to promote Christian power in America. The religious right has long supported conservative causes, but this current wave seeks more: a nation that actively prioritizes their particular set of Christian beliefs and far-right views and that more openly embraces Christianity as a bedrock identity..."

From the AP:

"Veteran conservative activist Ralph Reed said Wednesday that the faith-based group he leads plans to spend at least $50 million on get-out-the-vote efforts in 2020.

It’s part of a large-scale marshaling of evangelical resources that’s poised to benefit President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign.

After Trump spoke to an annual conference hosted by Reed’s group, the Faith & Freedom Coalition, the longtime GOP strategist previewed a voter outreach plan for 2020 that he said would include significant investment in Latino voters of faith.

Of the $50 million the group has set aside to spend on communicating with voters, Reed said $4 million would go toward contacting socially conservative and religious Latino voters in swing states that include Florida, Colorado, Nevada and Arizona.

'We will do our job. We will turn out our vote,' Reed told reporters.

The Faith & Freedom Coalition’s work on turning out voters, particularly Latinos, who support socially conservative issues such as abortion restrictions, will help bolster the Republican Party’s efforts to deliver Trump a second term.

Vice President Mike Pence visited Florida on Tuesday for a 'Latinos for Trump' event in Miami ahead of the Democrats’ first presidential primary debate, a sign that the GOP’s courtship of that voting bloc is already intensifying.

The eight-figure spending plan by Reed’s group is also expected to include 500 paid staff members and 5,000 volunteers, according to the Faith & Freedom Coalition. In addition to evangelical Protestant voters, the group’s voter contacts will include Roman Catholic voters.

The Faith & Freedom Coalition, founded by Reed in 2009, is a nonprofit organized under a section of the tax code that permits advocacy on specific issues and limits activity expressly to promote candidates..."

It is way past time to tax these religious organizations that have gone far afield and are using vast sums of exempt monies to sway elections and subvert the separation of church and state.

And this from Marjorie Taylor Greene...speaking to Steve Bannon in an interview:

"Well I have to say I was so happy hearing you interview Doug Mastriano and Mark Finchem," said Greene. "You know how much I love Kari Lake, and I'm so happy that you bring these candidates on, because these are the candidates that America is going to elect. And you know what, Steve? Everyone knows this nation is, we're about to have a complete revival. Because Americans know who our identity is. We are a Christian nation, we are a country of nationalism, we care about our borders, we care about our economy, we care about our children."

The state must be defended from religion just as and more importantly religion must be defended from the state.

Most importantly indvidual liberties must be defended from both.

Eliminating religious bigotry is a tough nut...
