In the May 6, 2019, Sports Illustrated article, Anderson told Stephanie Apstein that he felt a responsibility to help break what he called baseball’s “have-fun barrier.”

“I kind of feel like today’s Jackie Robinson,” Anderson said in the interview. “That’s huge to say. But it’s cool, man, because he changed the game, and I feel like I’m getting to a point where I need to change the game.”

Guy's got a pretty big ego.   I don't really think people feel like Tim Anderson is some major star who's going to change the game.   A player like Tatis Jr is more who I think of when I imagine guys who are pushing the old-school rules against things like bat flips and showing emotion as a hitter.

And I really think it's a bad comparison as what Robinson went through was a lot more serious and groundbreaking, and Jackie really was that major star/HOF'er who was in a big spotlight, and all alone there at first.

At any rate I don't think it's racist to take a jab at him and call him "Jackie" - that's just taking a jab at him *not* being Jackie, being much closer to a nobody.  It's taking a jab at him for putting himself in the same sentence as Jackie.

Anderson should have been ejected from the game, because he kept repeating to put Donaldson on base. As if he was going to do something to Donaldson. In my opinion that was a threat.

Meanwhile a couple of innings later Anderson got his wish, and he did nothing.

That said, for whatever reason if Anderson doesn't like being called Jackie, Donaldson shouldn't call him that anymore.

I had a feeling that a WSox player might try to sucker punch Donaldson. Props to Judge for being a peacemaker and being streetwise by going over to Donaldson and taking him away from the argument.

Grandal was the guy who started things...literally got into Donaldson's face with no provocation.

How do you know there was no provocation? Unless your on the field you don't know what's said. Who knows maybe Donaldson is a wiseass. He's had problems before... i.e. Cole.

I saw him come to the plate and didn't appear to say anything until Grandal got in his face. Even then he looked very restrained...remarkably so, IMO.

Donaldson is a "wiseass"...always has been. So what? He's always played with emotion and speaks his mind, which is what got him traded from Oakland. He's one of those guys players hate if he's on an opposing team, love when he's on theirs.

As far as what he said re Cole and apparently Giolito...pitchers already have every advantage over hitters. It’s not at all out of line for hitters like Donaldson to call out pitchers for using “sticky stuff”, which is exactly what he did.

As I recall, you've frequently said you have no respect for "cheaters", which is exactly what Cole, Giolito and any other pitcher who used "sticky stuff" is/were doing...cheating.

That's the way I saw it, Grandal initiating it and the umpire should have stepped between them immediately, instead he stood there watching Grandal jawing.
