Yankees’ Aroldis Chapman has been playing hurt - nj.com

They're trying to see if he can play through an Achilles issue with no IL time.

A relief in a way as it explains his struggles.   Not good that he's hurt, and maybe not good that they've not just put him on the IL to let it heal 100%.

He has given up a run now in 5 straight appearances and his cotnrol is iffy at best.  "Trying to play through it" ain't working.    If he is injured better to IL him, because, basically, he is only usable in mop up situations.

You're always so fast to blame Boone for everything. Did you ever stop to think maybe Chapman was hiding it and no one knew about it?

agree my sense is that chappy was either hiding or downplaying it. hopefully now that it's out in the open, they can evaluate it and come up with a plan either way.

whether you like or dislike him, and it hasn't always been pretty, he has been one of the best closers in the game over the 10+ yrs. he actually started out reasonably well allowing no runs and 2 hits over his first 7.1 innings w 11Ks. since then 6 hits, 6 runs in 6.2 innings with only 4 Ks. something is clearly wrong. he needs to get right particularly w green down and others struggling.

I don't think you can expect any pitcher, and most especially one who reilies on velocity, to pitch throuh an injury. If he is hurt, IL him.

Chapman is more concerned with his build these days than being a dominant closer ... The guy is gigantic and it's affecting his pitching.

Oh and he no longer hides hs guns behind long sleeves ... he wants the world to see them !

He's been swole since 2019 at least and he was dominant then and in 2020.   And the start he had in 2021 was fantastic.
