DJ is an offensive downgrade to Donaldson for sure unless DJ can start putting up some numbers similar to 2019-2020. Donaldson is better in most important offensive catagories right now, OBP, OPS, SLG, etc. I love DJ's versatility but numbers like last year make him nothing more than a league average offensive player. Here's hoping he can get back some of those 2019-2020 numbers. Good start so far tonight.

Defense counts too. At this phase in their careers DJ is neither an offensive or defensive downgrade to Donaldson. Plus, DJ keeps his mouth shut and lets his playing do the talking.

DJ has made several sparkling plays at 3B and his offense, which has always been excellent, has suffered a bit lately due to his wrist injury. His recent ABs suggest he's back on track.

I hope the Yanks win the World Series with Carpenter getting the walkoff just so we can make "The Mustache" Legend.

It's THE MUSTACHE!

On defense, I might actually give the edge to DJ. As far as offense though, if they both end up with numbers similar to what they did last year or what they have done so far this year, then yeah unfortunately DJ is a downgrade, the numbers don't lie.

As we all know, DJ had all-star level offensive stats in 2019-2020 but last year was a big drop off which I hoped was due to the hernia, but so far this year the numbers look about the same as last year. Hopefully the last few games are a good sign, but he does turn 34 in July so this could be what he is from this point on. I hope not, and we still have a lot of season left.

Of course Donaldson is 36 so his production could drop off the table at any minute or end up with lingering injuries and of course everyone likes DJ's personality/attitude better that goes without saying.

I hope Carpenter stays on. He has an excellent batting eye.

Too many players for the roster, someone has to go, I'm not sure Carpenter is one to stick ?? I'm worried about Andujar, he needs to play...

Donaldson is a very good defensive 3rd basemen (1000+ starts)... DJ is an adequate 3rd baseman (140 Starts)

Outside of Donaldson the entire team is made up of passive personalities ... That has been one of their biggest problems over the past few years. No team wins the world series without attitude and fire and Donaldson brings that to the team

Theyve both been in the league 12 seasons and Donaldsons carreer WAR is almost 2 x DJs ... same for the last 2 seasons

DJ is very good but Donaldson is better

He's batting .188 with 2 walks ????

He has 3 hits that all happen to be HRs  ... yes that's very sustainable ... Isnt that exactly the type of hitter that we have been compalining about for years???

not sustainable and not desirable. don't have a lot of confidence in someone who didn't hit in his previous 3 seasons suddenly reinventing himself. a very long shot.

with josh & stanton coming off the IR, 2 players must go. probably a pitcher like marinaccio and one position player. you have to keep andujar over carpenter.
