He’s a lefty hitting .303 in AAA and has an .851 OPS. Plus he stole 3 bases today bringing his total to 21. Still only 24 and never really was given a legit shot. I sure don’t want to upset the Big Apple cart but damn, he sounds like he could be a pretty good ML ball player if giver a chance. The Astros have been an elite hitting club (when they’re not cheating) for years and they still brought up Alvarez and Tucker and they got even better.

Seems like the Yankees have 2 choices. Play him instead of Hicks or Gallo. Or keep him at Triple A and hope he improves his trade value. In my opinion, they should try to trade Hicks and all or some of his 10 million dollar a year contract. It's not like Hicks is hitting the cover off the ball and he only appears to be a .230-.240 hitter.

A .230 to .240 is equivalent to the value of a .270 hitter, today.

Especially for someone like Hicks who hits mostly LH and in to the modern shifts.

Hicks is a lifetime .230 hitter and has been in the ML since 2014. The shitft was not as prevalent 8/9 years ago as it has been the last couple of years. Listen he has had a couple of big hits this year including last night but lets not forget his poor average with RISP not to mention lefetime he hits about .130 with the bases loaded in close to 60 at bats.

I have no problem with him being a 4th outfielder on this team. The problem is when bot Hicks and Gallo are in the lineup together. Gallo is just a bad hitter. Unless you plan on playing Stanton every day in the OF then a better alternative is needed.

I think if the post season started tomorrow, you'd see Judge, Stanton and Hicks in the OF, and one of either Donaldson or Gleyber would be DH'ing (probably Gleyber).   I can live with that.   If Gallo can become the Rangers era Gallo before the trade deadline, then I think you don't need to make any deals.   You don't absolutely need to make a deal anway, so long as everyone stays healthy.

Really all that has been missing for Hicks so far has been his power, and maybe that's finally starting to click now as well.   He's drawn a lot of walks and his batting average isn't that far off of what I would expect.   If he can start hitting more long balls, he's basically solid enough.   He's brittle though, so if a good enough trade was out there, and if Gallo doesn't show sustained success instead of just flashes - then I could also see a case for a trade.   They made the deal for Gallo last year and the return wasn't too steep (and he was doing well when they got him), so something in that range.

You're right and good point about the infield shift. Hicks would be a good 4th OFer, but not for 10 million dollars a year.

I heard a stat yesterday that yankees are something like 58-22 when Stanton starts in RF ... If that 's the case and the way Judge is playing in Centerfield  ... why do anything else. Just get rid of Gallo and bring up Andujar and have Hicks as the 4th OFer

I'd like to see them replace Gallo with another lefty bat but I prefer one that can actually hit.

New, curious why your so down on Florial? The kid's only 24 and he lost a year+ of development to a significant injury. We know the kid can run and catch, this year he seems to be putting up some nice offensive numbers at AAA. He's only had 34 abs at the MLB level and I would be willing to bet he hasn't played 3 consecutive games. I don't know if he'll be any good but I still would like to see him get a legitimite shot.

No argument if they dump Gallo and bring up Andujar for now, but that still shouldn't stop them from tring to make a deal for another legitimate bat for the outfield.

the fantasy baseball move would be benintendi - a LH bat.

andujar, particularly if he regains some of the electricity in his bat would be fine for now and though he bats from the wrong side, could possibly develop into something. presently he'd be an upgrade over gallo.

This article sounds like no takers for Gallo might just have to cut him.

The Padres had interst this past spring. Just cutting him yields nothing, and still leaves the Yankees on the hook for his salary.

I'm sure some trade can be realized, if Cashman actually works at it. Take anything in return, even if only salary relief.

we'll probably have to eat some salary. the rangers ate $2mil last year and he was much better then.
