Good point and very true about Clemens protecting the Yankee hitters. Clemens also still had his good stuff, where Donaldson as of yet hasn't hit like he did in his prime. Don't remember Clemens trash taking either. Not that he's a bad player but I still would rather see Donaldson in a trade package for an upgrade in either LF or CF, which would also allow DJ to be the everyday 3Bman.
I didn't want Donaldson in the first place, and would like to see him gone. But Cashman's stupidity in taking on yet another onerous contract keeps hurting this team. I can't see another club that would want the 36 year old JD or his ugly contract. Cashman is good at helping other teams unload terrible salary burdens, but is stubborn as a mule, or incompetent, when it comes to relieving the Yankees of a bad deal - e.g., Hicks.

It tells you something about Cashman's head that he wanted Donaldson's attitude on his team.

Just his trades for Holmes and Trevino are worth their weight in gold so far.

I confess now: I exaggerated. And I'd like to see Gardner become a head coach or manager in our system.

I think he would make a great college coach. Teach young people the right way to play the game and how to get the most out of their talent. That was what I always respected about Gardner. I tend to like and defend players like that because I like to think I was like that, not overly talented but worked my butt off

how bout nestor. and peralta has been pretty solid. people were going crazy about giving up the mighty mike tauchmann for him. cashman does great at finding some gold in the "dumpster" but doesn't do well on the big ticket items. still befuddled by trading for donaldson. but agree w newinn - hard to be negative the type of season we're having.

Indeed but I have seen here and on other sites him still getting knocked from time to time. The never satisfied casual fan.

Gardner always gave 100%. He always seemed to me as a player who was a quiet leader. I would like to see Gardner coach for the Yankees. One player I think he could eventually really help is Elijah Dunham who's at Double A. His stats right now remind me a lot of Gardner's.
