Yankees deal for Royals All-Star OF Benintendi

With just under a week until the Trade Deadline, the Yankees got their shopping spree started by acquiring Royals outfielder Andrew Benintendi, the clubs announced on Wednesday night.

Kansas City will receive three Minor League pitchers in return: RHP Beck Way (No. 21 on Yanks' Top 30), RHP Chandler Champlain and LHP T.J. Sikkema (No. 19).

Benintendi is enjoying the best season of his career for a Royals team that is underperforming and out of contention. The lefty is slashing .321/.389/.399 with a 124 OPS+ in 92 games. The Yankees were reported to be in the market for another outfield bat, especially after Giancarlo Stanton went on the injured list this week with Achilles tendinitis.

Benintendi was a first-time All-Star this season, won a Gold Glove with Kansas City last season and was a Rookie of the Year runnerup with the Red Sox in 2017.

The Yankees begin a series against the Royals in the Bronx on Thursday.

yes a free agent at the end of the season.

not familiar with the names we gave up but sounds like a good deal. for sure this means the gallo nightmare is over. hitting .321 w a .389 OPS. assume he'll bat leadoff. though i think they'll still keep judge in the 2 hole, i'd go beni, DJ, judge, rizzo, gleyber, carp, hicks, trevino, IKF. whatever it is, lineup just got a lot longer. i can live w a judge, hicks, beni OF until stanton comes back.

people can complain that it wasn't soto or reynolds but a major upgrade nonetheless. exactly the type of hitter people complain we don't have. despite the loss, a good day in yankeeland. now we need a SP and a bullpen guy.

all 3 prospects are pitchers. tj sikema is #19, beck way #21 and chandler champlain isn't in our top 30, so we got away without giving up any of our top guys. trade is a win.
