Any predictions on how Cole will do against Castillo?  Ace versus Ace or not?  We definitely could use another win..  I would like to see a sweep of Seattle, then a sweep of the Red Sox..  Will keep all of us happy for a few games...Smile

you just can't predict baseball, suzyn ... look the guy is a stud. great stuff but he needs to stay from that bad inning, particularly the first where teams seem to jump him.

He needs to reevaluate his game plan and adjust early if pitches aren't working. He seems to be hard headed and not change his pitch selection. I believe I've seen him shake off Trevino a lot lately.

Seattle bombed Cole in NY. He is an ace in name only; 34th in MLB in ERA, at 3.56, which isn't ace-level. Verlander, Scherzer, DeGrom, those are aces. Pitchers who regularly shut down teams, and pitch to sub 2.50 and better ERA's. We never know what we are going to get when Cole pitches. He has become quite inconsistent.

Agree 100% with your thoughts. Only disagree with you as to the catcher. I'm pretty certain that Higashioka caught him the last 2 times that he pitched. And I recall John Flaherty commenting on your last point. Both he & Higashioka didn't appear to be on the same page.

Yanks go yard has an article about Cole's splits between Trevino & Higgy.

The article is written by Adam Weinrib. Titled "Gerrit Cole has horrific Higashioka -Trevino splits"

the trevino/higgy numbers are quite stark. think trevino caught last night so its higgy's turn tonite. hopefully they have a better game plan.

i'm sure cole and everyone in yankee management are aware of the numbers. and if cole's starts are less effective w higgy, have to assume it's the same w the other starters. i've always felt trevino would start all the post-season games but it might really be time to make him the full-time catcher.

I thought Trevino caught him the last game because Higgy played the game before but I could be wrong. I seem to remember as he was spitting up homeruns saying to myself even Trevino isn't helping. Then again I can't remember what I had for breakfast. Laughing
