Tempestuous Teddy Williams, the Red Sox problem child, pitched at Fenway Park yesterday.
Granting a long-standing request by Williams, Manager Joe Cronin allowed the long-legged outfielder to hurl the last two innings of the first game against the Detroit Tigers, already leading 11-1.
Williams held the Tigers to one run on three hits and struck out Rudy York.
The Tigers won the first game 12-1. In the second game, Williams, playing left field, scored three runs as the Red Sox rallied for an 8-7 win. - AP, 8/25/40
