...find a new general manager.

But they wont.  Mangement loves him because his bottom line is always good.  So, that means The Steinbrenners have to sell the team, or all die off.

With the deals Cashman has in place, I am not sure a young GM would want the job. This team got as far as it did only because Judge had a historic year.  The payroll is a mess and the minor league system did not have enough talent to interest the Reds.

It did, the Yankees didn't want to part way with the players they wanted.

I know, I know. Cash is saving them for a championship run in 2035.

How would Castillo have helped us beat the Astros?  I don't think it's wise to throw away talent that is practically MLB ready for a half season rental.

 1)   Castillo was under control for '23 at the time of the trade. He has since signed an extensiion that by NY standards is reasonable...About $ 24 M per year or 2/3 of what Cole makes.

 2)   In his only start against the Astros, he went 7 innings and gave up 3 runs. That might have worked for the Yankees tonight.

 3)   The Yankees have Cole, Cortes and question marks as starters for '23. Montas has shoulder issues, Taillon is a free agent and Montgomery is in St. Louis.

So who is arriving from the minor leagues to start next year ?

My mistake then, I still think giving up Peraza, Volpe and Dominguez is too much for one pitcher.

We also have Severino but with his injury history he's far from a sure thing.

Be careful what you wish for... you could end up with Peter Angelos as an owner.

I've never understood what fans expect from the Steinbrenners. The same folks who belittle George for "meddling" with the "baseball people" decry his son for not taking an active role in on field decisions. It cannot go both ways. Hal spends more money than anyone in the AL every year. That says it all.

Maybe Schmidt, unless the Yankees try again to trade for a pitcher like Lopez.
