Already got IKF and Rizzo coming back. What other deals/moves would make you happy?

Mine:

  1. Sign Judge
  2. re-sign Benny
  3. trade/cut Hicks and Donaldson
  4. Shore up the pen
  5. at least check on Verlander

Mine:

  1. Sign Judge - absolutely
  2. re-sign Benny - nah, not even for DJLM money.  especially since a hamate bone injury can seriously rob powewr long after the player returns to playing
  3. trade/cut Hicks and Donaldson - they won't DFA them but getting another team to pick half their remaining money would be a major win
  4. Shore up the pen - sure
  5. at least check on Verlander - ditto though he has made some comments that suggest he would never sign with the Yankees.
  6. certainly see what they can get for Torres.  probably won't move him in the off season given DJLM's toe issues and not knowing if Volpe and/or Peraza are ready to start full time
  7. upgrade back up catcher.  trevino appeared in 112 games, 820 innings as a catcher and defintiely seemed to wear down.  Probably do not want him going much, if at all, beyond that in 2023

This is going to be a very unpopular post, But may stimulate conversation.

There is no way I would pay Aaron Judge (and I love Aaron)  a soon to be 31 year old over 42 mil. per year for 8 years, Which is currently being proposed in the 337 mil offer. I believe in a few years that will become a horrible contract and cripple the team financially for years.

I realize none of what I'm suggesting will happen but I was hoping for more of a retool. Let's start by  Dumping Donaldson and Hicks for whatever you can get.

This will be cheaper, provide more contact, fewer strlkeouts and be more entertaining.

You could probably add Nimmo, Yoshida and Senga for the amount Judge will cost.

 LF   Brandon Nimmo...L

 3b  DJ LeMahieu ......R

 1b  Rizzo.................L

 DH  Stanton.............R

 RF  Masataka Yoshida..L

 2b  Gleyber................R

 CF  Bader..................R

 C   Trevino................R

 SS  Peraza................R

SP  Cole

SP  Cortes

SP  Severino

SP  Koudai Senga

SP Montas

Bench

IKF

Cabrerra

Higgy

Bullpen....Cashman can figure that out, It's the one thing he's good at.

Let Judge go.  Long-term contracts for big bucks is something to shy away from for players over 30.  Judge has a little bit of an injury history with the Yankees.  He likely won't get healthier as he ages.

Agree to trade Donaldson and Hicks.  Eat a portion of their salaries if you need to.  Do the same with Stanton if you can.

Strengthen the rotation and the pen.  This is a young man's game.  Go with youth.

Re-signing Benny would certainly be predicated on his health. If healthy, then he certainly entertains a much better OF, and provides LH contact at the plate. His age is certainly a plus.

As for backup catcher, I can't imagine they will spend resources there given they have two under arb control in Higgy and Rortvedt.

With all due respect to our Japanese players, I really don't see them adding two basically unknowns to their starting lineup and staff, even if they can sign them. They don't always translate...

As for Nimmo, I can only imagine he will draw quite a tidy contract himself. He's not much younger than Judge, too.

I don't disagree, but I think the optics of paying Cole and Stanton big money, and letting Judge walk would be very, very bad.

Judge is not only about on-the-field value, and that is why I think they will try to retain him.

I understand your point, Dixie, and it's a valid one for sure.

Additionally,  you've always looked up to me as your hero as others on this forum have.  Because of that, I can overlook you questioning my judgment this time, but don't make a habit of it or it's over between us!  LOL!
