May be better than their current options, but not all that exciting possibility.

Along with potential trades, there are still some free agents available who could help teams in 2023. That list includes Jurickson Profar, a 29-year-old infielder/outfielder who has played the last three seasons with the San Diego Padres, a team that has expanded its roster significantly this offseason. The same MLB.com article tying the Yankees to Reynolds also mentions Profar could be a part of New York’s plan to boost left field options. Jim Bowden of The Athletic (subscription required) mentions that Profar is “a real possibility” for a Rockies team that went into the offseason looking for a left-handed hitter to potentially serve as a leadoff hitter. The switch-hitting Profar could fit that role nicely for a Colorado franchise that has been fairly quiet this offseason. Profar could become a name to watch with several teams that haven’t completed their offseason goals as January continues and the list of free agents who could make an impact dwindles.

Profar came out of the Curacao/Aruba SS factory. He, like Cabrera, can serve as a Super UT. Seems that Yanks are leaning toward giving Cabrera a legit shot, and could hedge that bet by signing Profar.

guess he'd be "ok". does make contact and has a reasonable walk rate. a career .238 hitter. made $8 mil last year. batted lead-off but if dj's healthy and they keep judge in the 2-hole then he bats down in the order. not a game changer. my sense is that they're willing to give cabrera/hicks/stanton a shot. don't see them making a move for profar unless he's gonna be "the" guy in LF.

Profar and Hicks have very similar stats since 2019 ...Profar only slightly better. That would just clog up this LF mess even further. Plus Hicks is much better defensively than Profar

Mentioned Profar being a LF free agent option for the Yankees 3 weeks ago. A few years ago I read that Profar being linked to the Yankees when he was with the Rangers. In my opinion, he's a slight upgrade from Hicks.

Tapia is also a free agent. Not sure if any remaining free agents would be an upgrade from Cabrara if the Yankees are planning on using Cabrera in LF and not as their super utility player.

Barring injury or a significant roster move I can't see how Cabrera gets a lot of time as a super utility infielder. The role would end up looking like the MG role from 2022. A healthy DJ has to get 600 pa and that does not leave much for anyone else. Is Cabrera left to platoon with IKF at SS ? What about Peraza ? Volpe in '23 ?

my wishful thinking is that peraza wins the SS job. and yeah think DJ is the utility IF'er but hoping he gets most of the reps at 3B. regarding cabrera, if you pro-rate him over say 140 games, you get .247/21/66/.740. obviously it was only 44 games and there's no way to predict but he matches up well with most of the options other than reynolds and happ. seemed to be on the upswing over the last 3 weeks. and as a RF'er, even in limited playing time, he was tied for 6th in runs saved, so maybe he translates that to LF. think he'll benefit from last year's experience and should be even better.
