You do take some risk with how well the TJ recovery goes.

But Crochet brings one very high ceiling with him.  Assuming the medicals check out I think you'd have to make this deal if you could.

Crochet's delivery reminds me of Righetti's, he has a ton of potential but he is coming off TJ surgery so that's a red flag. Yankees should make the trade if the WSox put Colas in the trade.

I like Torres, but here's enough potential coming back in that trade for the Yankees to take a chance. Other prospects/players on both sides can be added to even out the trade. But the Yankees shouldn't include any of their top 5 prospects. For starters the WSox would get a proven very good 2Bman. The Yankees would get their lefty LFer and a lefty relief pitcher/future starter.

If you don't like the makeup of such a trade, take this into consideration...

The Yankees would be trading from one of the strengths (middle infielder). Do the Yankees want to spend the money to re-sign Torres in a couple of years? The Yankees have a high payroll and Severino is in his contract season, so is Bader. The speculated trade would give the Yankees 2 prospects with team friendly contracts.

Yeah, trading Torres for Reynolds would be nice, but it doesn't seem like the Pirates are interested.

Why would the Yankees want a corner OF/DH type like Colas who has no ML track record?   He's not athletic enough to play LF in Yankee Stadium.

If the Sox offer Crochet, you're probably getting more value back than Gleyber is worth, especially considering how many years of control are still left.   You take that offer straight up IMO, but the Sox would probably be looking for Gleyber+.

Crochet also might be the kind of pitcher the Pirates would want in a deal for Reynolds.

Interesting, all this time I figured that LF was a corner OF position. Also interesting that the Yankees wouldn't want a corner OF/DH like Colas even for his hitting. Yep, has no MLB track record, yet for some reason the Yankees would be interested in trading their starting 2Bman in his prime straight up for a pitcher who only pitched 60.1 MLB innings and is coming off of TJ surgery. I guess for some reason the Pirates would want Crochet, but they wouldn't also want the Colas either since he's only the WSox 2nd best prospect. Good to know.

Last I checked it was, but if you hadn't noticed, LF in Yankee Stadium is rather large and you need more of a CF/LF to play there - like Gardner.   DH is thoroughly clogged.

Crochet has actually thrown 60 ML innings, and plenty of pitchers come off of TJ surgery.   Remember the Taillon trade?

You'd want him because he's shown he's a monster in the time he's had so far in the majors.   Tall lanky LHP who throws over 100 MPH and has a wipeout slider and was picked in the first round, 11th overall.   We have a glut of infielders, and we only control Gleyber for 2 more years.   Gleyber is also inconsistent and a bad 2023 could tank his trade value.

If Colas is their 2nd best prospect then they have a weak farm system.   We have a bunch of minor leaguers that I wouldn't trade for Colas.   The Martian being one of them.   Now there is a guy who's built to handle LF in Yankee Stadium.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Move power hitter Gleyber (27) to 3B in '24, along with Peraza (23) @ SS, Volpe (23) @2B.
