I like the idea of a Torres, Peraza, Volpe, Rizzo, infield. But the Yankees still have DJ. So, I think there's a chance Torres is going to get traded either for Reynolds or for pitching prospects that the Pirates want in a trade for Reynolds.

Yanks have a classic power hitting 3B in Gleyber. He'd be 27 during the '24 season. If Peraza & Volpe live up to their projections that's a great looking IF for many years.

Hopefully the LH hitting Wells joins them at 1st base in 2024 ... how bout that for a homegown infield

Thought it was a given Wells would move to 1B, but reports are he's made great improvements at catcher and his statements indicate that's where he wants to stay.

Max, I'm could be wrong but I don't think Torres makes sense for the Pirates. He only has one more year of arbitration left and he is already making more than Reynolds. I'm not sure the Pirates would be willing to sign him longer term considering what his market value might be. I would expect that they would want prospects that are under team control for a longer duration considering there spending history.

That makes sense, there's probably more of a chance that the Yankees trade Torres for trade chips they can use to trade for Reynolds. I read that the Pirates want pitching prospects.

Yeah because DJ and Rizzo are  the picture of health and still have 5-6 prime years in front of them

Both players are on the Yankees, so your sarcasm is irrelevant. Let me ask you something...

What player is going to bring back more in a trade for the Yankees Torres or DJ?

Are the Yankees willing to give Torres a big contract with left-hand hitting Sweeney only a couple of years away from being ready to play for the Yankees?

I'm not anointing Volpe MVP yet, but the thing I like about him is that he is being projected as a team leader.  If he can be an above average performer and project good leadership skills, he'll be invaluable to this team.

Bob, I agree. But the Yankees would have a salary issue and a roster issue. The Yankees would have to be willing to trade DJ and give Torres a big contract. I'm not sure if the Yankees would do the latter.

Torres' 2023 will have definite long-term roster implications for the Yankees.  If he can live up to expectations, then trading DJL becomes an option (and DJ's contract still has the potential to be valuable to a suitor after 2023, with 3 years and $45M left).  I would anticipate his WAR will exceed the contract value for at least 2024 and 2025, while there might be some regression in 2026.

Bob, I've been reading the same thing. If his left handed bat plays out like some are expecting and he even becomes an average defensive catcher he could be a Posada like player. Still aways to go but that would be very nice.
