First off, Volpe is closer to being MLB ready than Pereira - Maybe ... Yankees need a LFer more than they need a 2nd baseman right now
They tried to trade Torres to the Marlins for Lopez - The Marlins waanted Gleyber and the Yankees said no Thanks
The Yankees aren't going to have a 15 million dollar player on their bench - DJ is going to play 3rd, 1st, 2nd and DH ... If he is healthy
In my opinion 3B will be DJ's in 2024 - DJ will be 36 in '24 and has never started more than 47 games at 3rd base in a season and that was as an injury fill-in. DJ will never be a full time 3rd baseman at this point in his career.
Yeah, the Yankees need a LFer more than a 2Bman, that's why Torres is the most likely to get traded, for the reasons already mentioned.
The Marlins also wanted Peraza along with Torres in the trade for Lopez. Remember, Hal said that Peraza and Volpe will get long looks in Spring Training. That doesn't sound like a vote of confidence that they will re-sign Torres when his contract is up.
DJ has played 1416.2 innings at 3B. Besides, 3B is a less demanding position than 2B. And the season where your mentioned DJ playing 47 games at 3B you failed to mention that same season DJ won a Gold Glove.
DJ will be 36 in the middle of the 2024 season, so what? He could be keeping 3B warm for Sweeney if he's MLB ready in a couple of years. Arias might be better than them all, but he might only be in Double A by then.
It's not a bad idea, but other than on this message board, I haven't heard the Yankees having any plans to move Torres to 3B.

Haven't seen Yanks make a definitive statement re moving Gleyber to 3B, and wouldn't expect them to. But, just as many talent evaluators project Volpe moving to 2B, many pegged prospect Gleyber to eventually move to 3B due to his strong arm, relative lack of range and thickening lower body. I believe he'd be there today if Yanks hadn't found a pleasant surprise in Urshela.
I like the idea of Torres playing 3B. But one thing to keep in mind is that the last time the Yankees moved Torres off 2B full time, he had a bad season in the field and at the plate. I can't speak for the Yankees, but that might make them shy away from moving Torres off 2B a second time.

I'd chalk up his dropoff in power in '21 at least partly to his defensive problems at SS.
A lot less to think about at 3B, and expect his offense to improve because of that. I think he'd settle in just fine. Unless he's traded, I'd say it's almost a certainty he'll be moved.
That wouldn't be my logic at all. I'm not confusing quantity with quality. First off, Volpe is closer to being MLB ready than Pereira and Dominguez. He's also rated higher than both of them right now. DJ shouldn't be confused with Hicks. Stanton isn't an everyday LFer. It also appears that the Yankees want Cabrera in a super utility role. So you can add him as another middle infielder that the Yankees have on their roster.
The Yankees must agree that their middle infield depth is their strength since they tried to trade Torres to the Marlins for Lopez.
I don't know if Sweeney will play for the Yankees or not, but the fact remains he is another infield prospect that the Yankees have. Torres like all MLB players was at one time unproven. Peraza and Volpe are rated high, so there comes a time when a team is going to trust some of their prospects. DJ is under contract and on the Yankees roster so he's going to play. The Yankees aren't going to have a 15 million dollar player on their bench.

You might highly doubt Peraza will ever be as good as Gleyber offensively, but the Yankees might not feel that way. My posts about Torres aren't what I want the Yankees to do, those posts are what I think the Yankees will do. As mentioned before, I rather they trade DJ and resign Torres and have either him or Volpe play 3B. I have also said many times that DJ and Torres are my favorite Yankees. But again, the luxury tax is what it is and the roster is what it is. Torres will bring back more in a trade than DJ and his contract going to get more expensive.
Doesn't really matter if Peraza can't hit like Gleyber (he will be a better baserunner/stealer though). Gleyber is a failure at SS and Peraza is an excellent defensive SS. Someone has to play SS.
Why doesnt it matter ... Offense no longer counts in baseball? If that's the case we are we all so high on Volpe who has the lowest filed: grade and arm: grade of all of them? Like I said Gleyber was every bit the prospect that Volpe and Peraza are ... and he is doing it at a high level in the MLB. The other two are ... prospects
And I will add that Gleyber was at least a year younger than both of them when he made it to the MLB ... Let have a little respect for a guy that has proven it
A couple things the grades don't measure is the mental side of the game and work ethic. I'm not suggesting this is somthing Torres lacks, because I really don't know. They are attributes that scouts seem to rave about with Volpe. Maybe that will be the difference if he exceedes some already pretty high expectations.

SS is the harderst position to play in the infield and Gleyber doesnt have the quickness to play it.
3rd base is a lot less cerebral but requires a good arm which Gleyber has. Whether he can make the transition or not I dont know ... but if not maybe Volpe can. We will see soon

Agree with this ... 20-21 was when he was annoited the SS were his 2 down seasons.
